The Property Broker acts as an essential connection between Aon’s clients and prospects and the insurance markets. This role collaborates closely with Client Managers and other client-facing colleagues to develop, negotiate and secure a wide variety of property-related insurance solutions, including: Property damage / material damage Machinery / equipment breakdown Business interruption / loss of profits Political violence Sasria and related specialist covers The Property Broker uses strong technical knowledge and market relationships to review, negotiate, and agree on policy wordings, clauses, and terms. These must meet clients’ risk transfer needs and follow Aon and market standards. What the day will look like Client & Coverage Advisory Collaborate closely with Client Managers and other client-facing colleagues to gain insight into clients’ operations, risk profiles, and coverage requirements. Advise on how property insurance dovetails and integrates with other product lines (e.g., casualty, financial lines, construction). Support the design of cost‑effective risk transfer solutions that align with client strategy and risk appetite. Risk Information & Placement Strategy Advise on the collection of relevant underwriting and exposure information (e.g., COPE data, values, BI information, risk surveys, engineering reports). Analyse risk data to determine appropriate risk transfer and placement options. Determine suitable markets and distribution channels for placement in accordance with Aon security guidelines and any client‑specific requirements. Develop placement strategies, including marketing plans, target markets, layering structures and alternative programme designs where appropriate. Market Negotiation & Transaction Execution Prepare and issue broking notes, market submissions, quote comparisons and placement documentation for both renewals and new business. Negotiate terms, conditions, limits, deductibles, pricing and capacity with insurers to achieve optimal outcomes for clients. Review, negotiate and finalize policy wordings, endorsements and clauses with insurers and clients, ensuring clarity, accuracy and alignment with the agreed coverage intent. Ensure timely issuance of policies, endorsements, cover notes and other contractual documentation. Technical Expertise & Thought Leadership Provide technical advice to colleagues and, when required, directly to clients on: - Placement design and structuring - Available coverage and market capacity - Pricing trends and underwriting appetite - Potential coverage enhancements and alternative solutions - Market changes, developments and emerging risks Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of property, BI, political violence and Sasria wordings, and relevant legal / regulatory developments impacting these products. Collaboration & Network Engagement Build and maintain strong working relationships with key insurers and underwriting partners. Develop and sustain effective internal relationships across Aon, including: - Client Management - Aon Re - Aon Risk Consulting and Risk Engineering - New Business / Sales teams - Aon Global Client Network (AGCN) - Aon Global Broking Centre and other specialist hubs - Demonstrate an understanding of broader Aon, departmental and team strategies and how Property Broking contributes to them. Use of Aon Tools, Products & Processes Maintain awareness of all relevant Aon SPS products, facilities, panels and tools, and utilise them appropriately in programme design and placement. Apply Aon’s policies, procedures, compliance standards and governance requirements in all broking activities. Accurately maintain management information, files and records (including placement data, correspondence and documentation) according to internal standards. Complete all required administrative tasks, including system updates, checklists and reporting, in a timely and accurate manner. Support to Senior Brokers & Team Development Offer daily assistance to more experienced brokers handling complex or multinational accounts, including data analysis, documentation preparation, and market follow-up. Share knowledge and market intelligence with colleagues and contribute to team learning and established guidelines. Skills and experience that will lead to success Qualifications: Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is preferable Must hold registration as a representative (RE5) with the FSCA in accordance with the FAIS Act Be officially registered as a licentiate with the IISA Knowledge: Relevant insurance or broking background in Property (and ideally BI / political violence / Sasria or comparable catastrophe lines). Strong understanding of property insurance principles, policy wordings and common clauses. Demonstrated experience in negotiating with insurers and/or clients. Ability to interpret and analyze risk information, underwriting data, and coverage needs. Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical collaborators. High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, wordings and data. Strong organisational skills with the capability to handle multiple placements and deadlines. Proficiency in standard office applications (word, excel, powerpoint) and broking / placement systems (or ability to learn quickly). Experience managing large, complex, or multinational property initiatives. Knowledge of South African and international insurance markets and carriers, and South African insurance legislation.
