Cafe Tamra, our well loved brunch restaurant on Northcote Road, Wandsworth, is seeking an experienced, versatile chef to lead our kitchen operations.
Specialising in fresh, high-quality brunch dishes, we are known for delivering delicious food in our busy, vibrant daytime setting. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned culinary leader with extensive kitchen management experience, a passion for brunch cuisine, and the ability to oversee all aspects of our daytime kitchen operations, independently.
The work week is 5 days, with an expectation to work all weekends. As we operate daytime only, our chefs typically are finished are finished before 5pm, which has been a condiserable benefit noted by all our kitchen staff, over the years.
Key Responsibilities:
- Kitchen Leadership: Independently manage all kitchen operations, including opening and closing all sections, ensuring seamless daily performance during daytime hours (we are open 7 days per week) and overseeing all weekly duties.
- Staff Training & Development: Recruit, train, and supervise kitchen staff, ensuring they excel in all aspects of their roles, from brunch dish preparation to maintaining Cafe Tamra’s high standards.
- Inventory & Stock Management: Oversee daily food and inventory tasks, including stock takes, ordering from suppliers, and proactively managing stock levels to support our brunch menu.
- Food Safety & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to food safety regulations by managing food labeling, monitoring cooking and reheating temperatures, checking delivery temperatures, and completing our opening and closing checklistss.
- Culinary Excellence & Presentation: Drive consistency and creativity in dish preparation, ensuring all brunch dishes are presented in an appealing, Instagram-worthy manner that aligns with Cafe Tamra’s brand.
- Cleaning & Maintenance: Lead the execution of all cleaning tasks, ensure completion of the weekly cleaning checklist, and promptly address or document minor equipment/site damage for repair.
- Staff Scheduling: Develop and manage weekly staff work schedules (Rota) to optimize coverage for daytime operations and maintain efficient kitchen workflows.
- Menu Contribution: Collaborate with management to innovate and refine the brunch menu, incorporating seasonal ingredients and customer preferences while controlling costs.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven experience as a Head Chef or equivalent in a professional kitchen, ideally in a brunch or daytime dining environment.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills to inspire and manage a diverse kitchen team in a fast-paced setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of food safety regulations, inventory management, and kitchen operations.
- Strong organizational skills to multitask and maintain composure during busy brunch services.
- Keen eye for detail in food presentation, stock management, and compliance checks.
- Problem-solving ability to address minor equipment or site issues and document them effectively.
- Flexibility to work daytime shifts, including weekends, in a 7-day operation.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Zero hours contract
Pay: £15.50-£18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 45 per week
