Responsibilities

This is a place and people-focused role that goes beyond traditional property management. The Placemaker is responsible for enhancing the resident experience, fostering a strong sense of community, and ensuring our buildings feel like home—encouraging residents to stay with us for the long term.
This role requires creativity, initiative, and a deep understanding of community engagement.
You will also be key in launching and welcoming new residents to a brand-new Manchester Life building in the Poland Street area in 2026. Preparations began this year.

Key ResponsibilitiesResident Engagement & Community Building

  • Build relationships with residents, gathering insights to enhance their Manchester Life experience. (Note: A separate team handles maintenance and complaints.)
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment in shared spaces. Ensure clubrooms are well-maintained, stocked with fresh plants, and updated with new books in the residents’ library.
  • Develop and oversee a diverse programme of events, including fitness classes, social gatherings, workshops, and community initiatives.
  • Act as a bridge between residents and local businesses, curating exclusive offers and promoting the Manchester Life resident discount card.
  • Encourage involvement in local initiatives and charity partnerships, strengthening connections between residents and the wider community.

Marketing, Events & Social Media

  • Manage the Placemaker Instagram loves Ancoats ensuring engaging, high-quality content that resonates with the community.
  • Plan and execute resident events, including large-scale gatherings like Christmas and summer parties, as well as smaller, regular activities (e.g., book clubs, running groups, yoga, and cooking classes).
  • Promote Manchester Life’s resident discount programme and community initiatives to residents and local businesses.
  • Work closely with external digital communications providers to enhance Manchester Life’s brand.

Sustainability & Travel Coordination

  • Lead Manchester Life’s sustainability and green living initiatives, encouraging residents to make eco-friendly choices
  • Serve as the Travel Plan Coordinator, conducting travel surveys and promoting sustainable transport options.
  • Assist new residents with local travel planning and orientation, ensuring they feel at home in Manchester from day one.
