Budget & Planning Engineer – Austin, TX - In Office   Summary: Formentera Operations is seeking a highly analytical Budget, Planning & FP&A Engineer with strong data and analytics capabilities to support asset-level decision making. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, finance, and data, responsible for integrating operational plans with financial outcomes while building scalable data tools to improve visibility, forecasting accuracy, and decision speed.   The ideal candidate will not only understand subsurface and operations but also be able to access, structure, and analyze large datasets, develop automated workflows, and build data-driven dashboards that serve as a source of truth for the organization. This individual is expected to own both the analysis and the underlying data infrastructure that supports it. Responsibilities: * Lead reservoir development planning by working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to optimize development programs across the asset base. * Integrate analytical, operational, and financial results into development planning and economic evaluations to support strategic decision making. * Lead development and production optimization efforts across both conventional and unconventional assets by integrating performance surveillance, reservoir diagnostics, and economic analysis to maximize production, recovery, and capital efficiency. * Conduct development lookbacks and incorporate learnings into forward planning efforts, including performance benchmarking and trend analysis. * Prepare and present well-level and project-level economics (NPV, IRR, breakeven, sensitivities) for development opportunities, workovers, and optimization projects. * Lead and support budgeting and forecasting processes, including CAPEX/OPEX planning, AFE tracking, and variance analysis. * Assist with reserves evaluation and contribute to type curve generation and maintenance, ensuring alignment with planning and economic assumptions. * Access, extract, and integrate data from multiple systems (SQL databases, data warehouses, production and financial systems). * Develop and maintain automated workflows and data pipelines to streamline analysis, reporting, and forecasting processes. * Build and maintain dashboards and visualization tools (Power BI, Spotfire, etc.) to provide real-time visibility into asset performance and capital efficiency. * Create integrated data models linking production, operational, and financial datasets to support planning and decision-making. * Perform advanced analytics, including trend analysis, regression, and performance diagnostics, to identify key drivers of well and asset performance. * Standardize and improve data quality, accessibility, and structure across teams, helping establish a centralized source of truth. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve data integration into technical and business workflows. * Communicate technical and financial findings, risks, and recommendations clearly and effectively to management and partners. Key Competencies: * Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving mindset * Ability to integrate geological, engineering, financial, and operational data for decision-making * Strong data ownership mindset with ability to build end-to-end analytical workflows * Excellent communication and presentation skills—able to translate technical and financial analyses into actionable recommendations * Collaborative team player with a proactive and adaptable approach * Focused on automation, innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellenceAbility to make informed and effective decisions by analyzing data and assessing   Required Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Finance, or related discipline * 5+ years of relevant experience with an oil and gas operator or in planning / FP&A / technical roles * Exposure to both conventional and unconventional reservoir development and support * Proficiency in RTA, DCA, and economic modeling tools (ComboCurve, ARIES, or PHDwin) * Strong command of analytical and visualization platforms (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Spotfire) * Proficiency in SQL and experience working with large datasets and database systems * Demonstrated ability to build automated workflows and apply data-driven solutions to streamline analysis and reporting   Preferred Qualifications: * Exposure to reserves management and reporting processes * Experience with data platforms (Azure SQL, Snowflake, or similar) * Familiarity with Python or other data analytics tools * Experience integrating data analytics and modeling into development planning and capital allocation decisions   Physical Requirements: (with or without reasonable accommodation) * This is largely a sedentary role.
