Job Title: Building Caretaker
Hours: Part Time
Salary: £27,694 to £30,024 pro rata
Accountable to: Estate Manager and the Duty Manager
Objective: To ensure the safety and general upkeep of the premises, supporting day to day operation of the properties and providing a welcoming environment for all users.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
  • Basic DIY and maintenance skills.
  • Must hold a valid UK driving licence
  • A level 2 qualification in plumbing or electrical is an advantage but not essential.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous caretaking or facilities experience is desirable.
    Working Relationship: This role requires working relationships with all members of staff – in the offices and the outdoor team. This role requires working relationships with our 21 elected Councillors: South Oxfordshire District Council and Oxford County Council. This role will also require important work with local organisations, groups, and the residents of
    Didcot.
    The successful candidate will have a passion for Didcot – and preferably live in the town. It is expected that this position will be an important stepping stone to help our employee to undertake training and qualifications to further their career.
    Please note that the Government’s “devolution” programme will not affect any positions at Didcot Town Council. We may however find that additional assets are devolved to us when the District and County Council cease to exist.

Responsibilities
  • Open and close any of the Didcot Town Council properties as required, ensuring security procedures are followed.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs as required on all DTC properties or report issues to management.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the properties, including common areas in all Didcot Town Council properties.
  • Overseeing the general upkeep of Didcot Town Council properties including ordering supplies, supporting setting up and clear down of rooms for bookings and events and ensuring the properties is presentable.
  • Where required support the properties by manning the buildings and acting as Team Leader while on shift.
  • Monitor the condition of the properties and report any health and safety concerns. This includes completing the building checks around all Didcot Town Council properties.
  • Ensure external areas (e.g., car parks, entrances) are clean and safe.
  • Support contractors on site and ensure compliance with site rules and work to their Risk Assessment and Method Statement.
  • Respond to emergencies or call-outs when required.
  • To act as a keyholder on a 24-hour call-out basis for all Didcot Town Council properties.
  • You will be required to work evenings and weekends due to the nature of the role.
