REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below. Completion of a high school equivalent education. Must possess a Class III Certification of Competency issued by the Ohio Board of Building Standards, and a valid State of Ohio vehicle operator’s license. Must be bondable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of department policies and procedures; blueprint/schematics reading; mechanical diagrams; local and state building codes (building & HV AC); inspection techniques. Advanced knowledge of public relations; construction techniques for building and HV AC installation. Ability to understand practical field of study (e.g., building construction and HV AC); define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; calculate fractions, decimals and percentages; maintain accurate records; prepare meaningful, concise and accurate reports; communicate effectively; gather, collate and/or classify information about date, people and/or things; develop good rapport with public, builders, contractors and officials; use proper research methods in gathering data. Skills in air conditioning; A/C test equipment, (e.g., A/e gauges, gas tests, voltmeter, micrometer, neon polarity tester, etc.); building construction techniques. (Indicates developed after employment).
THE DUTIES LISTED BELOW ARE INTENDED TO DEPICT TASKS PERFORMED BY THIS CLASSIFICATION.
Performs field inspections of building projects, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) installation in new or existing residential, commercial and/or industrial buildings; inspects builders/contractor’s plans to insure building compliance; red-tags (rejects) unapproved equipment or work, re-inspects rejected work upon completion of repairs, etc.; coordinates inspections with fire department. Processes permits for HV AC; building construction, remodeling and installations; certifies compliance of installation in writing; prepares reports of completed inspections; researches unlisted equipment to assure compliance with Building Code; examines building plans for code compliance; store and retrieve information using electronic data processing terminal. Responds to, investigates and prepares follow-up reports on (e.g. work without a permit, uncertified equipment or contractors, etc.); prepares uncertified equipment or contractors, etc.); prepares techniques; letters to citizens, builders, etc. in responses to complaints, issues compliance orders; attends seminars, workshops contractor’s meetings, etc. to upgrade and maintain skills and knowledge.
