Within the context of a complex health care system and in accordance with the policies, values and guidelines of Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), the Shift Engineer 4/Building Maintenance operates, repairs and carries out preventative maintenance on the boilers, air conditioning units, emergency power and other related equipment of the facility in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.The Shift Engineer 4/Building Maintenance regularly performs general building maintenance and repair duties approaching the journeyman level in a variety of trades’ areas such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and welding, related to buildings and equipment. Also performs mechanical and electrical repairs to plant systems such as heating, air handling and pneumatic tube systems. Persons in this role must be prepared to act in various capacities regarding supporting maintenance in general terms. This position will work within the hospital campus, and in a support role to trades personnel.This work is framed within VCH’s commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health. Qualifications Education & Experience Education & Experience Certificate of competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of BC. Two (2) years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to operate related equipment. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with others effectively. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to organize work.
