Description General Position Summary The Building Maintenance Group Leader is responsible for leading, coordinating, and overseeing building and facilities maintenance operations within a large automotive manufacturing facility. This role ensures the safety, reliability, and functionality of plant infrastructure while supporting uninterrupted production operations. The Group Leader provides hands-on leadership to maintenance technicians, ensures regulatory compliance, manages work priorities, and partners closely with Production, Safety, Engineering, and Contractors. · Lead, schedule, and support a team of building maintenance technicians across assigned shifts · Works closely with group leaders to coordinate topics for meetings, etc. · Assign daily work, prioritize reactive and preventive maintenance tasks, and monitor completion · Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to team members and elevate serious cases to Maintenance Manager and Human Resources · Enforce company policies, safety standards, and work procedures · Support attendance management, overtime planning and coverage needs · Ensure all maintenance activities support compliance with IATF requirements for process control, documentation, and traceability. · Participate in a teamwork atmosphere and contribute to various continuous improvement projects and Jishuken and Kaizen activities such as defect rate(s) investigation, standardized work improvements, cost-downs or other improvement activities, etc. · Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment · Oversee maintenance and repair of building systems including but not limited to: HVAC systems Plumbing and water systems Electrical distribution and lighting Structural components (doors, docks, walls, floor, roofs) Fire protection and life safety systems Ensure proper operation of restrooms, offices, production support areas, and common spaces Response to facility-related emergencies and breakdowns · Support root cause analysis (RCA), and corrective action processes to prevent recurrence of equipment failures · Execute and improve preventative maintenance (PM) programs for facility assets · Ensure work orders are properly documented and closed in CMMS systems · Identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for cost reduction or reliability improvement · Maintenance compliance with OSHA, EPA, fire code, and local-state regulatory requirements · Conduct safety audits, inspections, and corrective actions · Ensure contractor safety compliance and permit management (LOTO, hot work, confided space) · Support environmental initiatives including waste, water, and energy management · Coordinate external contractors for specialized services or capital projects · Monitor contractor performance, timelines and Responsible for ensuring standardized work procedures are properly followed · Facilitate good communications with all for establishing expectations and problem resolutions · Must be able to successfully lead and function within a team environment and be able to adapt to change · Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service. · Assesses building systems to plan work assignments · Collaborate with team members to discuss upcoming work assignments; delegates assignments based on team members’ skills and experience · Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. · Support and lead facility upgrades, remodels, and continuous improvement project · Communicate facility issues, risks, and priorities to leadership · Partner with Production, Engineering, EHS, and HR to support plant operations · Participate in daily production meetings and maintenance planning discussions · Ensure maintenance technicians are trained in quality standards, documentation practices, and process audit readiness. · Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties. · Lead the maintenance team to adhering to environment regulations and company policies, promoting sustainability and safe handling practices per ISO 14001 standards. · Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas. · Support audits, inspections and corrective actions to meet both quality and environmental management standards. · Must possess strong leadership skills · Performs other related duties as assigned Requirements · Problem Solving – Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. · Technical Skills – Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills. Uses equipment and materials properly. · High School Diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree preferred · Minimum 3-5 years of building/facility maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment · 1-3 years of leadership or lead technician experience preferred · Working knowledge of: o HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems o Preventive maintenance practices o CMMS systems o Strong safety awareness and regulatory compliance knowledge · Preferred Qualifications o Experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments o OSHA, HVAC, electrical, or facilities-related certifications o Experience managing contractors and capital projects o Basic budgeting and cost control experience The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential job functions of this position. · Work is performed in a manufacturing environment, and the individual must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when on the shop floor, which includes head protection, hearing protection; safety eye protection, gloves, sleeves and steel-toes safety shoes, high visibility vest. · Must be able to stand for long periods of time · Must be available for shift work · Must be able to walk frequently · Must be able to reach with hands and arms · Must be able to work in a loud environment · Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to noise, dust, temperature variations · Ability to walk long distances, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs. · May require off-shift, weekend, or emergency response availability The above job description identifies the essential job functions and skills needed by the person or persons assigned to this position.
