What You Will Do As a Building Maintenance Superintendent 1, you will lead facility maintenance operations and supervise staff responsible for maintaining assigned buildings, grounds, and related systems. This role combines technical maintenance knowledge with leadership, planning, communication, and project coordination. Key responsibilities include: Facilities Operations & Team Leadership Lead and supervise day-to-day maintenance operations for assigned facilities, grounds, and related systems. Assign, schedule, guide, and review the work of maintenance staff; set work priorities; monitor quality and timeliness; and ensure maintenance activities support safe, functional, and mission-ready facilities. Project Coordination & Contractor Oversight Plan and coordinate repair, renovation, and maintenance projects. Develop scopes of work, material lists, and cost estimates; assist with procurement-related activities; coordinate projects beyond in-house capability; and monitor contractor work for quality, timeliness, and compliance. Maintenance Systems & Technical Problem Solving Oversee maintenance issues involving building systems and infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural, and grounds-related needs. Serve as a lead resource in identifying problems, coordinating solutions, and helping restore safe and reliable operations. Supervision, Accountability & Employee Development Carry out full supervisory responsibilities consistent with State of Ohio expectations. Communicate job expectations, monitor performance, approve timekeeping and leave within policy, address performance issues when needed, and support employee development through coaching, mentoring, and work assignments. Budget, Purchasing & Administrative Oversight Support maintenance planning through budget awareness, work order review, coordination of supplies and materials, maintenance records, reports, and operational documentation. Help ensure responsible stewardship of public resources and sound decision-making. Communication & Readiness Keep leadership and stakeholders informed on maintenance priorities, facility issues, project status, and operational impact. This role supports the Warfighter Fundamentals by reinforcing readiness, accountability, teamwork, communication, and stewardship in daily operations. Working Conditions & Requirements Regular work schedule is generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or other hours outside the regular schedule to respond to emergency maintenance matters, building system failures, inclement weather events, and other operational needs Work may occur indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to weather, dirt, odors, cuts, bruises, and general maintenance-related conditions Position may require travel among assigned facilities, as needed Must be able to lift, move, or handle materials and equipment consistent with maintenance operations What’s Required To qualify, candidates should demonstrate the following: High school diploma or GED Valid driver’s license Experience supervising staff in a facilities, maintenance, construction, or building operations environment Experience coordinating maintenance, repair, renovation, or building operations work Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, manuals, and technical instructions Ability to prepare reports, records, and written documentation Ability to communicate clearly with employees, leadership, contractors, and facility stakeholders Ability to use a personal computer and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate will also bring experience in: Building maintenance operations involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, roofing, or related systems Project planning, contractor coordination, and cost estimation Budget support, purchasing, inventory tracking, or work order management Leading teams during urgent or after-hours maintenance issues Explaining technical issues clearly to non-technical leaders and stakeholders
