Description:
CONTRACT: PERMANENT, FULL TIME – 35 HOURS PER WEEK
Are you a motivated and skilled engineer with supervisory experience looking for a rewarding new opportunity? We are seeking a Building Maintenance Supervisor to join our small, dynamic team at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation, proudly part of the University of Cambridge.
ABOUT YOU
You should ideally have experience in leadership or supervision, with a trade qualification in an electrical, mechanical, or construction discipline. Key qualifications and skills include:
- Certified Electrical qualification to an approved grade (NVQ level 3 or equivalent to JIB Approved Electrician grade).
- Certified City and Guilds 2382 to current IET wiring regulations (BS7671).
- Certified City and Guilds 2391 inspection and testing or the new equivalent qualification.
- IOSH Working Safely (minimum) – Managing Safely or equivalent (desirable).
- Computer literacy skills with experience using MS Office (essential).
- Competent and able to work at height (use of MEWP’s is essential).
The successful candidate will have excellent problem-solving and analytical fault-finding skills, a flexible working approach, and strong interpersonal, team-working, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities:
Group Print & Operations fulfil our customer requirements across the world, printing, packing and despatching millions of examination items securely to our customers around the world. We are also responsible for managing the life changing scripts returned from our learners, preparing them for physical or digital assessment.
In this role, you’ll have ample room for innovation, recommending and implementing continuous improvement ideas on a wide range of electrical and mechanical plant within our Group Print and Operations distribution centres.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Supervision: Lead and coordinate the Building Maintenance Engineers/Technicians, conduct performance reviews, and support the Assistant Engineering Manager in maintaining the highest safety standards.
- Buildings & Equipment Maintenance: Coordinate and undertake the annual Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule, manage electrical installation and reactive maintenance projects, and collaborate on various maintenance and improvement projects.
- Contractor Management: Ensure on-site contractors are fully inducted and briefed according to company guidelines.
- Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and safe systems of work.
There will be a requirement to participate in an out-of-hours rota call-out system. While this is a days-based role, there may be very occasional shift work, which includes a shift premium of 20%.
