Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • General understanding of building systems including building envelope, lighting and HVAC and how they impact building performance. Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • General knowledge of current energy codes, standards, sustainability certifications and incentive programs. NECB, ASHRAE 90.1, Toronto Green Standard, BC Energy Step Code, LEED, WELL, Built Green, Green Globes, Zero Carbon, Passive House, FortisBC, CleanBC.
  • General knowledge of energy modelling software, such as IES-VE, eQuest, EnergyPlus, Carrier HAP or Trace
  • Excellent written skills and understanding of software programs (Microsoft Word, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, REVIT, etc.).
  • Professional certification OR willingness to work towards LEED GA

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare building performance simulations to integrate energy performance with the building design process.
  • Participate in design meetings and assist the design team with achieving energy efficiency targets such as Code Compliance, LEED certification, Zero Carbon and Passive House.
  • Implement methods/knowledge from Senior Building Performance Engineers, Senior Building Performance Consultants, Building Performance Engineers and Building Performance Consultants.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports and documentation for submission to Certification Agencies and Authorities Having Jurisdiction. Submit reports and models for review to Senior Building Simulators
  • Assist with energy assessments for existing facilities including walkthrough audits, regression analysis and calibrated energy models.
  • Work with our Mechanical Design Team to improve the integration of energy simulation with BIM.
  • Update energy simulations throughout the design process and provide technical analysis and support during the construction phase.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and project teams to discuss energy efficiency goals.
  • Assist with the preparation of presentations to clients and at conferences to develop new business and exchange information with the building simulation community.
  • Develop knowledge of industry innovation and leading edge building simulation methods through continuing education, local chapter membership and participation in conferences.
