Are you interested in a highly technical position that is tasked with handling specialized review of drawings, plans and/or inspections pertaining to plumbing & gas systems in new buildings, structures, additions, demolitions or renovations of residential housing and/or commercial buildings as defined under the Safety Codes Act, National Plumbing Code of Canada and Mechanical Permits bylaws? As a Plumbing and Gas Safety Codes Officer III, your role will encompass providing specialized technical knowledge concerning compliance with the Safety Codes Act. This responsibility includes conducting thorough reviews, issuing necessary permits, and performing inspections upon request. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring adherence to regulations for residential structures, as defined in Part 9 and Part 3, along with any other installations relevant to the National Plumbing Code and the B149 gas codes. Your contributions will be essential in upholding our organization’s commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
SKILLS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS:
- Knowledge of standard methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment employed in the plumbing and gas fitter trades with experience involving projects of any size
- Full knowledge of codes, the Safety Codes Act and Permit Regulation
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills to work with a variety of applicants with varying understanding of codes
- Detail oriented, with visual acuity and ability to examine and understand technical plans
- Ability to make impartial and transparent decisions in the application of Safety Codes
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills and the proven ability to manage staff and build a culture of trust
- Full knowledge of applicable National Codes (National Plumbing Code of Canada, Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, Alberta Private Sewage Systems Code, Canadian Electrical Code, Alberta Electrical Utility Code
- Ability to explain advanced technical concepts and interpretations to citizens, developers and staff
- Ability to analyze and interpret plans or designs prepared by applicants, architects and/or engineers
- Advanced communication skills, both verbally and in writing to convey important information to concerned parties and foster compliance, collaboration or buy-in
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects and effectively organize tasks while changing priorities and circumstances
- Proficient in the use of personal computers for data entry, plan review, communication with customers
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style
- Strong communication skills to share knowledge and provide guidance and education to other Safety Codes Officers

Qualifications:
- Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade
- Three (3) years Safety Codes Officer experience
- Journeyman plumber and gas certification recognized in Alberta and six (6) years of relevant experience in the building construction industry
- Registered Plumbing & Gas Safety Codes Officer in the Province of Albert
