Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity in our Health and Building Unit delivering regulatory building compliance related services to ensure that buildings and places are safe.
In this role you’ll carry out inspections and associated enforcement of buildings and site works in response to reactive enquiries and programmed inspections relating to regulatory compliance in accordance with our procedures. You’ll also undertake proactive inspections of swimming pool barriers to ensure compliance with the Swimming Pools Act 1992, initiate compliance action and formally represent the City of Sydney in Court where required, and ensure that buildings being investigated, comply with statutory and the City of Sydney’s requirements in relation to fire safety, essential services and building related matters in regards to public safety, health and amenity.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • relevant tertiary qualification such as but not limited to a TAFE Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in building, building science, building surveying, engineering and planning
  • demonstrated experience in development compliance work and/or building surveying
  • sound understanding of building construction methods and materials suitable for residential and commercial buildings and structures
  • working knowledge of the National Construction Code of Australia, and sound knowledge of state building legislation and regulatory requirements for all classes of buildings and structures.

This role has the option of a rostered day off each month, known as a 19-day month.
