SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • HND/C in Building with demonstrable post-qualification experience, or BSc in Building/Building Surveying with post-qualification experience, or Extensive and demonstrable experience in Building Surveying.
  • Proven experience preparing specifications for repairs, maintenance, and planned works.
  • Strong skills in contract administration, supervision of works, and certification of payments.
  • Ability to prepare Bills of Quantities, estimates, feasibility studies, and work programmes.
  • Experience monitoring budgets and supporting senior management in financial oversight.
  • Experience presenting evidence as an expert witness in court or tribunals.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation relating to disrepair and ability to apply it effectively.
Responsibilities

WHAT’S INVOLVED WITH THIS ROLE:

The Legal Repairs Surveyor will be responsible for managing a caseload of live disrepair claims, party wall awards, diagnostic cases, and referrals from repairs teams. The role involves carrying out technical inspections, producing detailed specifications of work, monitoring progress, and providing expert advice to colleagues and external stakeholders. The post holder may be required to provide expert witness evidence in court, act in an advisory capacity to colleagues in the Technical Quality team, and support the Senior Legal Repairs Surveyor in developing team policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safeguard the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults encountered during the course of duties.
  • Carry out inspections and investigations to produce detailed specifications using the national schedule of rates and composite values.
  • Manage a variable caseload independently, ensuring timely and accurate outcomes.
  • Diagnose building failures accurately and use appropriate instruments to support assessments.
  • Undertake quality assurance checks on repairs commissioned by the Legal Repairs team.
  • Prepare reports, scott schedules, and technical evidence for legal cases.
