Position Title: Head Start Bus Driver Reports To: Transportation Supervisor Classification: Full Time / Part Year / Non-Exempt Status: Hourly Wage Range: $18.00 - $20.00 Summary/Objective: Transport Head Start children and families to and from center, other activities, and scheduled appointments. All tasks are considered essential except those identified as non-essential. Required Education and Experience: Excellent driving record; ability to pass CDL licensing exam and subsequent school bus driver training. Complete an annual DOT physical and TB screen. Be certified in Child and Adult CPR and Basic First Aid. Essential Functions: Conducts daily pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections as required. Transports children between home and center according to agency-established route. Transports children and parents to and from scheduled appointments, field trips, and meetings, as requested. Ensures that each child is released to authorized individuals. Ensures safety and emergency procedures are followed, including emergency evacuation drill monthly. Ensures all passengers are properly secured in appropriate child safety restraints before bus leaves the center or the child's home, and always while the vehicle is operating. Delivers center supplies as requested. Brings bus to service station for routine vehicle maintenance as requested. Cleans inside and outside of bus on an as-needed basis. Relays messages between center and home as requested. Forwards information regarding children's behavior or environmental changes to Teacher or Transportation Supervisor. In the absence of the Transportation Supervisor, the Bus Driver takes input and direction from the Operation Supervisor. Attends all scheduled staff meetings for position held. Respects and promotes the unique identity of each child and family, and refrains from stereotyping based on gender, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, or disability. Always maintains confidentiality regarding job-related information about children, families, and staff members. Ensures compliance with all Local, State, and Federal regulations. Completes documentation as required. Attends skills training as required by the Early Education Services Director. Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or Early Education Services Director.
Responsibilities
The Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting Head Start children and families to and from the center, scheduled appointments, and activities, while conducting required daily vehicle inspections. Essential functions also include ensuring all passengers are secured, following emergency procedures, and relaying necessary information between home and the center.
