SUMMARY

The Bus Fleet Maintenance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability and efficiency of buses and other public transit vehicles. Position provides maintenance oversight for the various transit services provided by Valley Metro to include Local Fixed Route, Express Service, Paratransit ADA, and non-revenue support vehicles. Working locations include Mesa, Tempe, and Phoenix. This position provides oversight and ensures contractual compliance in the areas of preventive maintenance inspections, reliability-centered maintenance, repairs, and accurate documentation of all vehicle maintenance activities in Valley Metro’s Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system. It also utilizes data analysis to identify root causes and trends, documents findings, proposes possible solutions, and makes recommendations to the location’s Maintenance Superintendent.
This position must be available to work weekends, odd and unusual hours and extended shifts; may be called back into the office in emergency situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Equivalent to a high school diploma and five (5) years of mechanic experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment (such as trucks and buses); OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties listed.

  • -Bus maintenance experience including conducting vehicle inspections desirable
  • -Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License and maintain a safe driving record and eligibility to drive throughout employment.
  • -A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is desirable, Class B with air brakes endorsement.

Background Investigation:

Monitors and provides oversight to internal and contracted vehicle maintenance to ensure contract compliance.
Performs contractor audits including but not limited to vehicle cleanliness, preventive maintenance, and special maintenance project audits.
Monitors and leads vehicle maintenance activities, which includes overseeing vehicle inspection, reliability centered maintenance, repairs, and the accurate documentation of all maintenance functions in Valley Metro’s Enterprise Asset Management system.
Performs root cause analysis and trend analysis through data mining; documents and communicates findings, possible solutions, and/or recommendations to the Contractor and Valley Metro management.
Monitors vehicle health through onboard automated vehicle maintenance programs and key performance indicators as identified in the contract.
Monitors compliance with applicable Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations; assists with National Transit Database (NTD) reporting requirements.
Operates a variety of office equipment, to include computers and associated software.
Determines operational needs of new vehicles for specifications; oversees new vehicle factory acceptance and in-service inspection processes.
Monitors and participates in the evaluation of components for vehicles and specialty equipment, forecasting maintenance needs.
Resolves a variety of complex maintenance issues; makes recommendations based on findings; prepares, updates, and revises a wide variety of reports.
Participates in weekly maintenance meetings and provides information and assistance to internal and external customers as required.
Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.
