Responsibilities
  • Assist the bus driver in supervising students to ensure a safe environment.
  • Operate the outside of the bus lift when not accompanied by TA.
  • Participate in securing the wheelchair safely. Usually the bus monitor will enter the bus after loading the child on the ramp and securing the door to assist the driver in finishing securing the wheelchair.
  • Monitor the actions of the students on the bus to and from school.
  • Assist the driver in unloading the wheelchair when not accompanied by TA. The bus monitor will be responsible for removing the rear straps and unbuckling the lap belt. The driver will finish removing all other straps.
  • Fasten and remove seat belts for the walk on students.
  • Load and unload children from the bus safely to their Teacher Assistants if the TAs are there waiting, if not, the driver will be responsible to keep the children on the bus until the TAs arrive while the bus monitor proceeds with wheelchair procedure.
  • Familiar with bus evacuation procedures.
