JOB DESCRIPTION

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world’s busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is seeking a full-time Business Analyst for the Bureau of Technology Development and Systems. The successful candidate will report directly to the Deputy Director of FIRES and will be responsible for assessing and documenting business processes, analyzing data, and participating in system design and development activities for the Bureau of Fire Prevention (BFP), Revenue Management, and Legal Enforcement units. The Business Analyst will collaborate with end-users to analyze and document business processes, outline functional requirements, and work with developers to define system functions and upgrade needs. Additionally, the analyst will work alongside developers and Quality Assurance (QA) teams to ensure that functional requirements are met and properly tested. The role also involves monitoring the data quality of routine data processing and resolving end-user and functional testing. Must have excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, writing, analytical, problem-solving, information gathering, and customer service skills.
Special Working Conditions: May be required to work shifts including nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
  2. An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
  3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
  4. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1”, “2”, or “3” above.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience and understanding of System Development Life Cycle - Experience with automated test tracking tools a plus - Ability to analyze and solve complex problems - Ability to manage assignments and meet project deadlines - Three or more years of experience with Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) software with demonstrated success record (experience with Acela software a plus) - Good analytical, written and Verbal communication skills
