Description
Job description Do you have 3 to 7 years of experience in financial analysis, data analysis, business analysis or business controlling, and are you ready for a commercial, impact-driven challenge in a fast-moving trading environment? If so, read further! We are a small, high-performing and entrepreneurial team operating in a fast-scaling international environment. Everyone, including the CFO, operates hands-on and combines operational execution with building and improving. The Role As Business Controller, you sit at the intersection of finance and commercial operations. Your job is to turn data into insight and insight into action, supporting our traders, management team and CFO with the analysis, models and reports they need to make better decisions. Your focus is business controlling: performance reporting, planning and control cycles, scenario modelling and commercial analysis. And because this is Nedstar — a small, fast-moving company — something else matters just as much: a genuine roll-up-your-sleeves attitude. You don’t ask whether something is in your job description. If something needs fixing or improving and you can add value, you step in. That’s the Nedstar way. About the role and key responsibilities What You Will Do Business partnering & performance reporting Deliver clear, actionable management reports and KPI analyses used by the CFO, management team and traders. Act as a sparring partner supporting management, traders and colleagues on financial questions. Translate trading data into commercial insights: margins, deal performance, risk exposures, and communicate them in a way the business can act on. Planning, forecasting & analysis Support the full planning and control cycle: budget, rolling forecasts and actuals, as a true business partner rather than just a reporter. Build scenario models and sensitivity analyses to support strategic and commercial decision-making. Contribute to business case development and investment appraisal as opportunities arise. Stakeholder reporting & collaboration Prepare management and stakeholder reporting that is structured, reliable and decision-ready. Work closely with Nedstar teams across trading, logistics and finance to drive performance and efficiency. Challenge stakeholders constructively with data, and ask the questions others might not. Monitor and reconcile client balances, ensuring accounts are accurate and discrepancies are flagged and resolved promptly. Tools, data & continuous improvement Proactively build and optimize AI-powered solutions — from automating reporting flows to developing new financial models that sharpen how we see the business. Take a helicopter view: spot where data, reporting or processes can be done better, and actually do something about it — using AI tools to create practical, scalable solutions. Spot gaps and opportunities in data quality, reporting flows and process design. FX risk, liquidity and trading company dynamics are topics you will develop familiarity with over time. Prior knowledge is a plus, not a requirement. Your profile What we are looking for Who we are looking for You bring 3 to 7 years of experience in financial analysis, data analysis, business analysis or business controlling. Whatever your background, the following describes you well: Analytically sharp and comfortable working with numbers and data. Proactive and self-starting: you do not wait to be told what to do. You can translate data into a clear story and communicate it to non-finance stakeholders. Proactive about building and using AI tools to improve, optimize and do things better and faster — you spot where something can be done smarter, and you build the solution, not just flag the problem. You have a helicopter view: you zoom out, see what’s missing or can be improved or optimized, and come back down with a practical solution — using AI. Smart, curious and eager to grow: you want to understand the business, not just the spreadsheet. Comfortable in a small, entrepreneurial, international team where things move quickly. You take ownership, follow through and care about quality. Fluent English is required. Dutch is a plus. What is in it for you? What's In It For You Nedstar is a fast-growing company with a vibrant and strong team culture where collaboration and innovation thrive. You will work in a dynamic environment that encourages new ideas and gives you the space to make a real impact, from day one. This role is designed to grow with you. As you prove yourself, your scope expands, your impact increases and the ceiling is genuinely high. We offer Career impact: shape your path in a dynamic company where your work directly influences performance and culture. Development: personal growth focus with access to training, coaching and language classes. Competitive salary and secondary benefits, reflecting your professional value. Full-time. If you like to do sport during working hours, we encourage it. Location: a historic canal house on the Herengracht in Amsterdam, with daily lunches, Friday drinks, company trips, the Nedstar boat and much more. Interested? Interested?
