POSITION SUMMARY

BCIC is seeking a dedicated and visionary Business Development and Entrepreneurship Officer to help execute our 2025–2029 strategic priorities. This position is crucial to elevating Brownsville as a prime destination for entrepreneurs and small businesses to start, scale, and thrive.
Reporting to the Vice President of Entrepreneurship & Innovation and working closely with the President/CEO, the Officer will manage and expand BCIC’s entrepreneurship and small business initiatives, including accelerator programs, mentorship opportunities, capital access, investment networks, and the development of a new Small Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) Program.
This role involves working closely with entrepreneurs, startups, and small business owners to provide guidance, resources, and support to foster their growth and success. It is also integral to the day-to-day operations of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department and will play a key role in the development and implementation of the Blueprint Lab program.
A key responsibility of this role will be facilitating BCIC’s membership in Alamo Angels, coordinating pitch events, organizing networking opportunities, and serving as the primary liaison with the Alamo Angels main chapter in San Antonio. This position will also lead the implementation and management of BCIC’s new CRM platform to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.

TRAINING & EDUCATION

  • Plan and deliver training sessions, workshops, and roundtables for entrepreneurs and small businesses.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts, investors, and successful founders to lead specialized sessions on investment readiness, innovation, and scaling.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship, Business Development, Economics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in entrepreneurship, small business development, investment readiness, or venture networks.
  • Experience with CRM systems (preferred: Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar) or demonstrated ability to implement and manage new platforms.
  • Knowledge of small business retention strategies and experience conducting direct business outreach.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Experience working with collaboration and productivity tools (Slack, Salesforce, Microsoft Office 365, etc.).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Uses basic algebra involving variables and formulas and/or basic geometry involving plane and solid figures, circumferences, areas, volumes, and/or computing discounts and interest rates.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires reading journals, manuals, and professional publications; speaking informally to groups of co-workers, staff in other organizations, the public, and external stakeholders; presenting training; composing original reports, training, and other written materials, using proper language, punctuation, grammar, and style.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires performing specialized technical or entry-level professional work requiring a general understanding of operating policies and procedures and their application to problems not previously encountered.
  • Involves application of specialized technical or professional principles and practices, or the use of a wide range of administrative methods in the solution of problems.
  • Requires regular attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results and occasional exposure to unusual pressure.
