Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving sustainable growth in private surgical activity across all surgical streams and services at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse (COBL). This includes expanding referral networks from the primary care sector across NSW, supporting and enabling growth for existing Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), and positioning COBL as the hospital of choice for integrated cancer care.
The BDM will work closely with COBL’s clinical teams, VMOs and external stakeholders including GPs, private specialists and health professionals to deliver on strategic growth objectives.
This full-time role reports into the Director of Marketing & Stakeholder Engagement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement business development strategies to grow private surgical activity across all surgical streams.
  • Build and strengthen referral pipelines through regular engagement with GPs, dentists, primary care providers and private specialists across Sydney, regional NSW and Canberra.
  • Plan and execute educational and networking events for referring clinicians, including accredited CPD sessions, meet-and-greets, and in-practice visits.
  • Serve as a key liaison for referring clinicians, providing high-quality communication, education and responsive service.
  • Partner with VMOs and clinical teams to understand practice goals, identify growth opportunities and support referral development.
  • Maintain regular contact with VMOs and their practice staff to monitor satisfaction, respond to feedback and anticipate future needs.
  • Collaborate with clinical, operational and marketing teams to deliver targeted outreach initiatives and referral campaigns.
  • Work closely with the Pre-operative Nurse Unit Manager to ensure alignment across growth strategies and VMO access to operating theatres.
  • Provide market insights and stakeholder feedback to hospital leadership to support strategic planning and service development.
  • Support external communications such as GP and dentistry newsletters, specialist updates and referral resources.
