We are seeking a driven and commercially minded Business Development Manager to play a key role in the next chapter of Executive Education at Otago. Te mahi | The role This is an exciting opportunity to join the Otago Business School at a pivotal moment of growth and transformation. Reporting to the Director of Executive Programmes, you will lead business development and market growth for our Executive Education portfolio — including short courses, custom programmes, micro credentials, leadership development, and new offerings across Queenstown and the Otago/Southland region. You will identify high value opportunities, deepen our connections with industry and government, and grow our presence across New Zealand and key international markets. You’ll be the front facing relationship builder — developing tailored proposals, securing partnerships, responding to RFPs, and crafting programmes that speak directly to the needs of today’s organisations. This role is ideal for someone who loves being out in market, spotting openings before others see them, and turning opportunities into meaningful, long term partnerships that drive both revenue and impact. Kā pūkeka me kā wheako | Your skills and experience We are looking for an energetic, strategic, and relationship focused professional who thrives in a growth environment. You will bring: • A proven track record in business development, sales, or partnership management, ideally in education, training, or professional services. • The ability to build new relationships and grow existing ones across corporate, public sector, iwi/Māori business, and industry networks. • Strong skills in proposal development, presentations, and negotiation, with the confidence to engage senior decision makers. • Exceptional communication, networking, and interpersonal skills. • An understanding of, or commitment to, Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Experience in executive education, higher education sales, or corporate learning environments is advantageous but not essential — mindset and drive matter most. Pūroko | Further details This is a full time (1 FTE), permanent position located in Dunedin or Queenstown, with travel expected across Otago/Southland and beyond as required. The appointment range for this role is $80,749 to $85,649. Top of Range $100,776.
