WE ARE NOW LOOKING FOR A BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER SPECIALIZING IN INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY

As a Business Development Manager, you are responsible for business development in the Industrial Chemistry research area for thermochemical conversions, polymers, biobased chemicals and fuels, water technologies, and hydrometallurgy.
In this position, you manage the innovation pipeline from IP creation to commercialisation and tech transfer via licensing and spinoffs for VTT-originated technologies. You support technical and commercial development and ideate new and innovative business models. You have an essential role in sparring the researchers in developing the TRL (technology readiness level) and the CRL (commercial readiness level) of the technologies, connecting to relevant networks, communicating outside views and business insight internally, and participating in developing the best practices for business development. You support IP creation and commercialization of IPR, as well as offering and spin-offs development from research results and technology. You lead commercialisation of business cases and technology concepts.
Our team operates as part of Sustainable Products and Materials business function of around 700 skilled professionals. As a team, we work in close collaboration with our Research Areas, IPR Management, VTT LaunchPad deep-tech spin-off incubator, VTT International Affairs and Business Intelligence, and VTT Commercial Operations.

THE COMPETENCIES WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • recent work experience in chemical industry or process chemistry. We are looking for someone who has been working with the latest trends in this field in the last two to three years and understands the current state-of-the-art, such as development and trends for new drop-in chemicals or materials recycling.
  • existing networks in the field of industrial chemistry that allow you to get a fast start in identifying relevant stakeholders for the business development ecosystem.
  • experience in Intellectual Property related matters and business development. In the most ideal case, this expertise stems from a relevant field of industry.
  • track record in driving projects/products/solutions in a target-oriented manner to the market, ensuring that each stakeholder knows their role
  • keen to speak with customers and partners, fluency in English
  • experience in working with customers and collaborators in Europe and/or in other international networks
  • university degree in a relevant field.

AS A BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • planning, management and development activities for the industrial chemistry technology portfolio commercialization, and for generating external funding for commercialization work
  • creating a business funnel from low TRL (Technology Readiness Level) research to high TRL technology and support for offering development in close co-operation with Research Managers and Solution Sales Leads
  • IPR portfolio commercialisation plan and implementation in the research area, in collaboration with the researchers and sales function in industrial chemistry
  • supporting research projects/programs in IP creation, know-how development, and giving input to portfolio offering
  • supporting deep-tech spin-off development from research results
  • engaging with external stakeholders for partnering and strategic collaboration
