SUMMARY

The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), a center within the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan, is seeking an Associate Director of Membership to engage with the over 800 member institutions in the ICPSR, provide leadership in integrating DEI initiatives into our membership and training initiatives, support the operations ICPSR’s Summer Program in Quantitative Methods, and utilize and consult with customers and internal staff on user/member analytics to improve the data services experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred. Three or more years, experience in marketing, communications, or customer service operations role. Proficiency in English grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation for the purposes of professional communications via email, promotional materials, and other correspondence.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications. Significant experience in customer service ticketing systems such as Jira. Significant experience in Google Analytics (GA4) with working knowledge of Google tagging, originating GA properties, and general GA reports output; evolving knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) techniques and experience applying beneficial SEO structure to website content.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal and customer service skills; outstanding attention to detail; strong desire to resolve customer requests quickly. Experience building strategic partnerships for the purposes of benefiting underrepresented institutions, students, and faculty with training and access to research data.
Must work well in a team environment, be able to manage, coordinate, and integrate several ongoing tasks, and have ability to prioritize. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language. Candidate must be willing to present training sessions via webinar technology and via live workshop environments.
Experience managing and growing staff whether temporary or full-time, including recruitment and selection.
Some travel is expected. A positive, can-do and customer-friendly attitude is a must for this position.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

Basic proficiency in spreadsheet software (Excel). Knowledge of classroom instruction technologies, licensing, and experience developing training/FAQs to assist users of these technologies. Participation on initiatives designed to integrate DEI as part of standard operations and to develop strategic partnerships. Basic knowledge of research data, data curation, metadata, quantitative methods curriculums, a plus.

Responsibilities:

Under supervision of the Director of Membership & Communication, the primary responsibility will be to will support membership requests via phone, email, and social media and to assist in developing, planning, and implementing marketing and communications strategies and events to engage and excite ICPSR members, potential members, and data services and training users. Primary responsibilities include:
Manage ICPSR membership operations that contributes over $5,500,000 annually to ICPSR’s revenues.
Lead new member acquisition engagements assisting in strategy and messaging development to institutions that are not yet members of ICPSR.
Lead regular engagements with current members of ICPSR; initiate and execute new approaches to extending awareness of use of ICPSR services across our administrative contacts within our member institutions and across students and faculty residing in those institutions.
Oversee invoices, credits, and updates to invoice recipients serving as the key link between ICPSR’s administrative unit, UM’s Shared Services Center (SSC), and our members; assist in collections of unpaid invoices.
Serve as a co-chair of several membership-related events including the Biennial ICPSR Meeting, Love Data Week, and the ICPSR Data Fair onsite and virtual events hosted by ICPSR. The role requires theme and program development and extensive promotion to get audiences attending.
Provide leadership in ICPSR’s, ISR’s, and U-M’s DEI initiatives; pursue strategic partnerships to sustain and grow ICPSR’s resources to support under-resourced data users and institutions.
Provide critical technical planning and support for classroom logistics to ensure faculty and students participating in ICPSR’s Summer Program in Quantitative Methods have space, computing, and working communications-technologies in classrooms across the University of Michigan. Serve as a key communications and strategy link between the ICPSR membership and the Summer Program.
Lead ICPSR’s Google Analytics knowledgebase and SEO strategies to ensure its members (data users, Summer Program students, sponsors, etc.) can find ICPSR and the content they seek as effortlessly as possible.
Manage and engage at least one full-time direct report, temporary staff, and several student interns dedicated to operations for the Summer Program.
