How you’ll make a difference:
As a Business and Finance Development Officer within the Early Years Team, you will support the collating, processing and analysing of data and financial information to ensure accurate service delivery and planning.
The team is responsible for delivering sustainable excellence in early years practice to ensures all children are supported in a safe and high-quality provision to achieve strong outcomes.

What you will be doing:

  • It will be your responsibility to manage and monitor the eligibility of funded childcare places and work with the Finance Team to ensure relevant payments are made.
  • Undertaking research, you will collect, collate and present data on early years issues and contribute to report requirements.
  • You will track and monitor spending of early years budgets and make payments.
  • A key part of the role will be for you to support early years providers with financial sustainability planning, including providing training and briefings, accessing the funding portal, making Census changes and completing financial returns.
  • In collaboration with colleagues, you will deliver training and/or offer advice to individual settings, managers, committee members etc. that would support the effectiveness of their business and when appropriate, their financial accountability.
  • You will need to provide support for settings who are concerned about financial sustainability.

What we need from you:

  • We require you to hold or be working towards a relevant professional/technical qualification e.g. AAT, NVQ4, or equivalent in a subject such as business studies or financial advice.
  • Given the elements of this role, you will have or be able to achieve a good understanding of local government including working within statutory frameworks and will have worked in a similar service area.
  • It will be important for you to have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and be able to build relationships to engage successfully with early years providers, parents and other agencies.
  • You must have good literacy skills to enable you to produce and present accurate reports and your numeracy skills should enable you to create and interpret data charts and explain cash flow statements.
  • It will be beneficial to have effective presentation skills to deliver training or offer advice to individual settings, managers and committee members.
  • You will have excellent knowledge of Excel and the ability to manage, manipulate and present data with a good level of general IT skills and the ability to learn and use appropriate specialist in-house software packages.

What you need to know:

  • This is for a 12-month limited term contract, ending 1st September 2026.
  • This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Badminton Road, Yate and from home.
  • Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained.
