Department Overview

Role Summary
The Business Intelligence Analyst plays a key and integral role in the delivery of successful BI and Analytics solutions to support and develop complex, cross-functional and enterprise-wide business intelligence solutions.
As a subject matter expert, the BI Analyst is responsible for writing and editing formal analysis reports, presenting insights, forecasting service demands, and coordinating related work assignments, timeframes and deliverables. The position models complex enterprise-wide data problems, discovers business insights and identifies opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques. In addition to using advanced analytics and database skills, this role is also proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets, architecting specialized database and computing environments, and communicating results.
In this role, the BI Analyst identifies actionable insights, recommend solutions for multiple businesses and influence the direction of the different businesses by effectively communicating findings to cross-functional and enterprise-wide groups. The BI Analyst works with senior leaders and corporate decision-makers as a data-driven advisor and partner on strategic issues. The BI Analyst uses data analysis to generate data driven insights, create quality metrics and produce actionable recommendations for a variety of internal and external business partners.
The position will validate findings using innovative, iterative, and proprietary models and approaches, while defending assumptions and results with business counterparts, and supporting sound organizational decisions. Using statistical, algorithmic, data mining and visualization techniques, the BI Analyst works on the Analytics team, which collects, analyzes, and transforms data into business forecasts and insights for the organization. The team works in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, balancing multiple projects and deliverables. The goal of the Analytic Team is to provide customers with timely, accurate, and actionable information through the use of business intelligence, data science, and data visualizations.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to work in a collaborative team and environment to meet external and internal business client needs
- Ability to prioritize, manage and execute multiple tasks and projects under tight timelines
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Proven problem-solving skills using sound analytical thinking and judgment
- Ability to mine and analyze data to reveal actionable insights
- Experience in requirements gathering and report design with a strong focus on UI/UX
- Excellent analytical, research, and data visualization software skills
- Ability to influence change and deliver analytical insights to internal and external stakeholders
- Effective data story-telling, communication, and presentation skills (written and verbal)
- Strong understanding of advanced statistics concepts, as well as descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analysis
- Intermediate knowledge of Python and R is an asset

- Must hold or be eligible for a Government of Canada security clearance
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A Degree/Diploma in data science, computer science, engineering, mathematics, economics, advanced statistics or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in PowerBI, additional BI tools are an asset (e.g., Tableau, Qlik, etc.)
- Up-to-date knowledge of business intelligence and analytics technologies, methodology and processes
