REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, data sciences, computer science, public or business administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis, program evaluation, or research;
  • Demonstrated experience with extracting data from multiple sources, merging that data, and finding and resolving inconsistencies;
  • Demonstrated experience with performing data quality analysis on datasets and reports;
  • Demonstrated experience with project management;
  • Demonstrated experience with Banner, Salesforce, or other relational databases or CRMs;
  • Demonstrated experience with BI visualization tools such as MicroStrategy or Tableau to build customized dashboards for use by both internal and external clients;
  • Demonstrated experience with SQL, SAS, Python, R or similar programming languages for querying data sources, performing the appropriate analysis, and creating visualizations;
  • Demonstrated Microsoft Excel skills;
  • Demonstrated quantitative skills and attention to detail;
  • Effective organizational, written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Ability to communicate knowledge and ideas in a consultative matter to a variety of audiences including senior leadership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience developing forecasting and tracking models that integrate a variety of statistical information;
  • Experience typically obtained within 3+ years analyzing data, evaluating programs, or conducting research;
  • Experience typically obtained within 3+ years extracting data from multiple sources, merging that data, and finding and resolving inconsistencies;
  • Experience typically obtained within 3+ years performing data quality analysis on datasets and reports;
  • Experience typically obtained within 3+ years using BI visualization tools such as MicroStrategy or Tableau to build customized dashboards for use by both internal and external clients;
  • Experience working at a public institution of higher education;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SQL development;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic and enrollment management/modeling principles, methods, and practices;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of predictive modeling, forecasting, and regression techniques using tools such as Python, R, SAS, SPSS, etc.; and
  • Effective critical thinking and problem solving abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Supports University Life (UL) Senior Leadership with descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive data analysis, using institutional and divisional databases along with external data sources as appropriate to provide data-driven insights to inform decision making about resources, services, and programming.
  • Converts UL Senior Leadership’s business questions into data queries.
  • Partners with key Mason units, including Enrollment Management Business Intelligence and Analytics team and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning.
  • Conducts in-depth analysis of various datasets, including institutional, divisional, and external databases, to identify trends, patterns, and business opportunities.
  • Creates visually engaging and user-friendly reports and dashboards that communicate key business metrics and performance indicators.
  • Supports UL customer journey management.
  • In collaboration with UL Project and Process Management (PPM) team and service providers:
  • Conducts quarterly, semesterly, or annual quantitative data analysis for prioritized UL journeys;
  • Prepares clear and concise reports to communicate findings and recommendations to improve the student and staff experience; and
  • Presents findings to stakeholders.
  • Identifies and resolves data quality issues.
  • In collaboration with UL units:
  • Performs data analysis discovery work and assesses data quality;
  • Develops actionable recommendations to improve data quality; and
  • Establishes a process for sustainable comparative data analysis work.
  • Supports strategic initiatives:
  • Serves on task forces, standing committees, or other divisional activities; and
  • Addresses a specific issue or opportunity by contributing data analytics expertise.
  • Supervision of the Graduate Professional Assistant (GPA) in data analysis:
  • Handles GPA recruitment and supervision;
  • Assigns tasks, provides on-going coaching, feedback, and mentorship to GPA; and
  • Participates in UL’s Growth program.
