Overview As our data and analytics environment evolves, we’re seeking a highly skilled and motivated hands-on Business Intelligence Engineer to manage, enhance, and optimize our BI platforms and data tools. This hybrid role combines business intelligence development (dashboards, data modeling, visualizations), requirements gathering, and data governance (data audits, corrections with data owners). You’ll be instrumental in supporting our current BI tools while helping evaluate and implement the next generation of data technologies to drive smarter decision-making across the business. As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will drive the data engineering and reporting workstreams. You will be responsible for producing high-impact visuals and deliverables that communicate insights clearly and effectively, maintaining data pipelines, and developing intuitive dashboards. The candidate must be able to extract, manipulate, and summarize large data sets using business intelligence and reporting tools. We are seeking a candidate who will continuously learn new systems, tools, and industry best practices to help design new tools that help our team automate and accelerate analytics. Responsibilities Business Intelligence Development & Data Governance Design, develop, and maintain BI dashboards and reports that enable business insights Produce clear and compelling ad hoc charts and visual narratives tailored to specific business questions or communication needs Collaborate with analysts and business units to translate requirements into scalable visualizations Maintain a data governance model including auditing and working with data owners to make corrections when necessary Optimize query performance and ensure data accuracy across BI environments Track and manage BI development activities in Jira Innovation & Future Tools Research and recommend emerging BI, AI, and analytics technologies Lead or support migration initiatives to modern cloud-based tools (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Power BI Fabric, Looker) Support Develop best practices for data governance, visualization standards, and user enablement Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field 3–5+ years’ experience in data engineering, database engineering, BI development and/or systems administration Strong proficiency in Power BI Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling Experience with ticketing systems (Jira, Spiceworks, YouTrack, etc) Understanding of data security, access controls, and platform governance Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) preferred Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills Preferred Skills Experience managing connectors/APIs between BI tools and ERP/CRM systems Familiarity with a scripting language (Python, R, etc) Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets Knowledge of data warehousing concepts or tools (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) Exposure to AI-driven analytics tools or LLM integrations in BI environments Company Overview Vision Technologies, a national and global systems integrator, provides IT services and solutions for commercial and federal clients.
