Description
Our purpose 🌍 Inspiring and empowering our people to create a positive difference for themselves, our clients and the planet. Sustainable Energy First is an energy and sustainability consultancy, founded to solve energy management problems in very large, complex commercial estates. This remains the core of our business driven by a commitment to sustainability and the goal of reducing our clients’ carbon footprint. The Role in a Nutshell 🐿️ The Business Intelligence team sits at the heart of how Sustainable Energy First delivers automated reporting, dashboards, and analytical products - improving operational efficiency internally and enabling better energy and carbon decision-making for clients. As the Business Intelligence Team Manager, you will strengthen the structure, resilience, and day-to-day effectiveness of the team. Reporting to the Head of Data Analytics & Intelligence, you will lead a team of BI Developers, acting as their direct line manager and first point of support. You will provide guidance, remove blockers, and ensure the team remains focused on the right priorities at the right time. Maintaining clear visibility across all team activity, you will proactively manage workloads, delivery risk, and stakeholder expectations to ensure consistent, high-quality output. You will foster shared knowledge, consistent best practices, and collaboration to reduce knowledge gaps and avoid single points of failure. Working closely with the Head of Data Analytics & Intelligence and the wider team, you will help translate strategic priorities into clear, well-governed delivery plans - ensuring the BI team remains modern, forward-looking, and sustainable as it continues to grow. Alongside your management responsibilities, you will also contribute directly to BI and Microsoft Fabric delivery, taking an active role in selected projects and remaining closely involved in complex or high-profile initiatives. This ensures you have clear visibility of progress, risks, and outcomes, and are able to confidently represent delivery updates to senior stakeholders. ✅ Effective Team Leadership Provide consistent line management for the BI team, including regular 1-to-1s, performance guidance, and development support. Create a clear, accountable environment where priorities and expectations are understood. ✅ Delivery Oversight and Prioritisation Maintain visibility across BI workstreams, balancing workloads, managing risks, and ensuring stakeholder expectations and timelines are clear and realistic. ✅ Hands-On Technical Involvement Remain actively involved in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric delivery - testing ideas, supporting developers, contributing to key work, and providing practical guidance to ensure high-quality outcomes. ✅ Knowledge Sharing and Resilience Promote documentation, peer review, and collaboration to reduce single points of failure and strengthen collective team capability. ✅ Continuous Improvement and Modern Capability Keep the BI function current by encouraging adoption of new features, platform enhancements, and evolving best practices within Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and related technologies. Key ingredients for the role ✅ Essential Skills and Experience: Previous experience managing, supervising, or mentoring team members. Practical experience developing or delivering solutions using Power BI. Exposure to Microsoft Fabric or modern cloud-based BI/data platforms. Understanding of data modelling and reporting best practices. Relevant work experience within the energy industry. Ability to coordinate multiple workstreams and manage competing priorities. Experience engaging with stakeholders and translating requirements into deliverables. Strong organisational and planning skills. Clear and confident communication skills. ✅ Preferred Skills and Experience: Experience managing or mentoring technical/BI team members. Working knowledge of SQL and/or Python within data workflows. Experience contributing to documentation, governance, or structured development standards. Experience working within a Microsoft-based data ecosystem. ✅ Behaviours and Attributes: Calm, structured, and delivery-focused. Comfortable balancing leadership responsibilities with hands-on involvement. Collaborative and supportive. Takes ownership and accountability for outcomes. Proactive in identifying risks and opportunities for improvement. Curious and open to learning new technologies and approaches. 💷 Salary: To be discussed at interview 🌴 Holidays: 25 days + bank holidays + 🥳 your birthday off, increasing to 30 days on length of service 🏠 Hybrid working (at least 2 days per week working from our Fulwood, Preston office) ⌛Flexible working - including the ability to bank up to to 5 extra days off per year ⛹🏽 Gym contribution 💰 Long service awards 🩺 Private Medical Insurance 🐣 Enhanced paternity/non-pregnant colleague and maternity/pregnant colleague leave 🏥 Simply Health scheme 🧠 Challenging work and development opportunities Inclusion and Belonging We believe that diversity is more than a commitment, it’s at the heart 🤎 of who we are.
