JOB SUMMARY

* Employees may telework up to 50% or more, depending on the position and the needs of the division. Employees who live 50 miles or more from their permanent work location may be allowed to telework more than 50% with approval from the division director. *
This position provides senior management and leadership to the State Fire Marshal division (SFM) as the Business Manager and fiscal manager for SFM. This position is a member of the SFM senior management team and provides leadership, planning and direction for the SFM overall. This position oversees an annual budget of over $20 million and provides oversight for the following business functions: fleet management, administrative/clerical functions and grant management. Supervisory responsibilities include hiring, directing, discipline, performance evaluation and training for supervisory staff managing the business functions. Along with budget planning for the division, this position is responsible for the day to day fiscal updates with DPS Fiscal and Accounting Services and will work closely with the accounting officer assigned to SFM.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Five* (5) years advanced professional, progressive experience in accounting, business administration or related work area.

Professional work experience should also include all of the following:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and standards, including GAAP and fund accounting.
  • Knowledge of functions, procedures, law, rules and regulations related to state government and financial management.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills, including working with spreadsheets and preparing reports.
  • Strong communications skills and ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or closely related field
  • Two (2) years of supervisory or demonstrated lead work experience
  • Knowledge and experience working in fire safety and prevention field
  • Familiarity with state systems such as SWIFT accounting and SEMA4
  • Experience with grant administration/management

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light: Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others, and moving and transporting light objects frequently. Even though the weights being moved and transported may be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require positioning self to move to a significant degree or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods.
