Summary This position is responsible to prepare and balance cash drawer, prepare and balance daily deposit for Gladwin, Clare, Gratiot and Midland, verify and post patient payments, verify and post insurance payments, contact insurance companies with problem checks and complete non-ar cash board payments for departments within the Health System. This position also facilitates customer walk-ins; answer patient questions and take payments, set up payment plans, payroll deductions and employee discounts. Responsibilities (20%)* Prepare and balance daily deposit and cash drawer. (20%)* Verify and post patient and insurance checks. Pull electronic payments from websites and post to system. (20%)* Complete non-ar board payments for other department deposits. (20%)* Set up payment plans, payroll deductions, and employee discounts. (20%)* Return all checks and credit card payments to patient or insurance that are overpayments. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist walk-in customers with questions. Certifications and Licensures N/A Required Education High school diploma or GED is required Three (3) years in a banking institution or business office setting required. Three (3) years experience in a cashier's office in a hospital setting preferred. Strong computer skills and knowledge in 10 key calculator. Other Information EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS: Three (3) years in a banking institution or business office setting required. Good organizational skills, self-motivated prioritization skills and excellent customer service skills required. Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done annually. Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis. Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
