POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sr. Data Analyst plays a crucial role at Shell Mobility and Convenience (SMC) by supporting our consumer and market level strategy in the US. The Sr. Data Analyst will provide insights that assist management on making informed decisions about inventory, pricing, promotions, and the effectiveness of the product assortment sold. This role drives understanding of customer behaviors and preferences allowing SMC to tailor product offerings, improve customer satisfaction, and increase loyalty. The data analyst will work with a diverse set of data sources from external firms and Shell resources. The data outputs led by the role play a daily and fundamental role in the operation of Shell company owned convenience stores. This role is essential in the transformation SMC data into actionable insights, driving strategic initiatives, and supporting overall business growth.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting or retailing science preferred.
  • 3-5 years related experience is required with at least 2 years in a lead analyst position.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Experience with retail benchmarking portals from companies such as Circana, Nielsen IQ and Opis preferred.
  • Knowledge of SAP business warehouse and Microsoft Power BI platforms.
  • Understanding of retail fundamentals and basic analysis level of buying, assorting, merchandising and retail operational processes is a significant advantage to the applicant.
  • Exposure to retail store operations as well as sound knowledge of Convenience Retail business processes.

Responsibilities
  • Gather and analyze data related to sales, inventory, customer behavior, and market trends to provide actionable insights.
  • Create reports and dashboards to visualize data, making it easier for stakeholders to understand and use the information for decision-making. These reports are released with pre-set frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually) or to address episodic needs.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) per SMC standards to evaluate the effectiveness of business strategies and identify areas for improvement.
  • Identify trends and patterns in data to forecast and optimize marketing mix activities, out of shelf performance and improve supply chain efficiency.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity following SMC systems and standards, maintaining protocols for data handling, processing, and cleaning.
  • Work closely with different SMC departments, such as marketing, supply chain, and global teams to share learnings, improve data outputs and sharing insights.
  • Use statistical tools and techniques to predict future trends and outcomes, helping the business make informed decisions.
  • Analyze market conditions and competitor performance to identify opportunities and threats.
  • Actively collaborate and manage the business relationship between SMC and Shell data teams in Chennai, India and Manila, Philippines.
  • Leads on behalf of SMC the day-to-day relationship with a diverse set of companies supplying data tools and consulting resources to the company.
