OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a Business Systems Analyst for a contract role from August until the end of the year, supporting one of our clients based in Edmonton in a hybrid work environment. This role will support a project focused on assessing the current SQL Server environment and planning for its future state, as well as advancing the configuration and adoption of SharePoint through a sandbox setup. The successful candidate will work closely with both technical teams and business users to document system configurations, define requirements, and support the rollout of improved information management practices across the organization.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
5+ years as a Business Analyst or Business Systems Analyst, working across both technical and business domains.
Experience in SharePoint projects, especially those involving metadata, retention, taxonomy, and business-facing configuration support.
Familiarity with SQL Server environments, with an ability to document systems and collaborate with DBAs.
Proficiency in documenting workflows, data flows, business requirements, and validation plans.
Comfortable working with sandbox/demo environments and presenting to business stakeholders.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Project 1: SQL Server Environment Assessment
Collaborate with DBAs and internal IT to assess the current SQL Server environment, including performance, configuration, and business dependencies.
Document the system’s existing architecture and configuration, along with any known issues or limitations.
Analyze how data flows between systems and create diagrams that map integrations feeding into and out of SQL Server.
Identify potential downtime impacts and support the planning of rollback or contingency strategies.
Track and organize action items, stakeholder metrics, and test artifacts to support validation and future-state planning.
Work closely with business stakeholders to understand how the SQL environment supports their workflows and identify any risks or gaps.
Project 2: SharePoint Configuration & Business Readiness
Gather requirements from business teams related to metadata, document sets, retention policies, security roles, and access control.
Collaborate with the System Analyst who will handle technical configurations, while supporting sandbox setup and preparing user-facing demos.
Assist with configuring SharePoint features in the sandbox environment when possible, and demo those configurations to business users for validation and feedback.
Document gaps, changes, and business impacts to ensure configurations align with actual user needs before moving to production.
Contribute to improving the organization’s overall information management maturity by aligning SharePoint’s capabilities with business processes and compliance needs.
Support stakeholder engagement by clearly translating technical setups into business context and helping teams prepare for adoption.
