Description

BUSINESS SYSTEMS DIRECTOR - NEAR EDINBURGH (HYBRID)

Lorien’s long-standing, successful (and growing) client, with offices very commutable from Central Edinburgh and the surrounding, is looking to recruit a Business Systems Director to join and lead in a key, brand-new role for the firm as it expands its technical function.
In return, you’ll join a great organisation well versed in keeping staff happy, plus a generous bonus scheme, flexible and hybrid working, annual salary reviews, and a range of other benefits designed with employee happiness in mind. We’d also be happy to share the great feedback from all the people we’ve placed into this firm already from Software and Hardware Engineers to PMs, Support and Operations staff, Managers and more.
This is a high-impact leadership role with end-to-end responsibility for business systems strategy, delivery, and optimisation. Working closely with the VP of IT, you’ll oversee a multi-regional team and play a central role in driving systems innovation, process improvements, and digital transformation initiatives across the business. You’ll work across departments, influencing technical direction while ensuring business needs are met with scalable, reliable, and secure systems.

Responsibilities
  • People-manage and develop a distributed team of business systems, data, and other technical staff from recruitment to reviews, training plans and ongoing development.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, coaching team members and identifying opportunities for development.
  • Define and deliver the roadmap for business applications, ensuring solutions align with broader IT and business strategies, as well as ongoing system performance and stability, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the business systems function and other departments, managing expectations and ensuring transparency.
  • Identify requirements for, and oversee the development and implementation of, software enhancements, system/architectural change, and key upgrades while establishing and maintaining system documentation and standards across platforms.
  • Support and guide team members on best practices in software design, database architecture, and systems analysis.
  • Monitor budgets and forecasts, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
