POSITION SUMMARY:

The Business Unit Manager (BUM) is responsible for the results of a Business Unit by utilizing the value generation strategy resulting in consistent year-over-year growth while exceeding customer service expectations. The Business Unit Manager focuses heavily on value creation, including value-based pricing, productivity, and profitable new business to create real intrinsic value. The successful candidate will lead a cross-functional Business Unit Team (Sales, Operations, and Engineering). The candidate will be responsible for Bookings, Profit and Loss accountability, contract negotiations, developing and maintaining customer relationships, and overseeing operating activities to ensure cost objectives are met.
The Business Unit Manager reports to the Vice President of Sales and Marketing. The BUM role is crucial for promotion to senior management positions within TransDigm Group.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for achieving Bookings, Sales, and EBITDA objectives
  • Drive consistent value creation through value-based pricing, productivity, and profitable new business
  • Develop/Implement/Coordinate the sales strategy, annual fiscal sales plan, and overall direction of the business unit
  • Prepare/Track performance to the yearly sales plan, and drive accountability within the business unit
  • Identify new and opportunistic ideas for growth while cultivating relationships with current and prospective customers
  • Provide oversight for bid proposals, including contract negotiation and long-term agreements
  • Work closely with the product teams, engineering, and customers to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions to design specifications and field requirements
  • Envision potential applications for core technology beyond existing products
  • Oversee coordination of business unit and product representation at industry events
  • Promote customer satisfaction philosophy to all levels of the organization
  • Foster cross-functional teamwork to meet customer expectations
  • Fulfill corporate obligations, including monthly sales report generation and quarterly financial presentations
  • Coach and mentor direct reports to strengthen the culture/skills of the team
  • Build and lead a dynamic organization, set the pace and example as the leader of the business unit

Role Qualifications:

  • 4-year bachelor’s degree (technical degree preferred but not essential)
  • MBA preferred
  • Broad business knowledge preferred: sales, engineering, finance, and operations Aerospace experience preferred (Commercial interiors experience a plus)
  • Experience in the growth and professional development of people preferred
  • Solid communication skills, including spoken, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate technical, non-technical, and financial information
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking capability
  • Ability to form good working relationships with customers, co-workers, direct reports, and management
  • Ability to drive accountability through the team to meet fiscal obligations
  • Up to 40% travel may be required
  • Experience preferred in the following areas:
