EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Diploma or Degree in Engineering (CSA, Electrical, Mechanical), Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
  • Tertiary qualification in either, quality, health and safety & environmental.
  • ISO 9001:2015 , ISO 14001:2015 & ISO 45001:2018 auditors or implementors certificates.
  • Additional training in environmental protection (e.g., IEMA) is desirable.
  • Train-the-Trainer certification and relevant safety training (e.g., Work at Height, Temporary Works, Live Energy, Lifting/Crane Awareness) is desirable.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5+ years of combined experience in Quality and EHS roles within construction, engineering, petrochemical, or advanced tech sectors.
  • Minimum 3–5 years in a BU Lead or Manager role in a €200M–€500M+ turnover business.
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in completing tenders and working with clients on compliance and audit readiness.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong knowledge of QMS and EHS systems, including document control, audits, RCA, and risk analysis.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and platforms such as DataScope, Hammertech, BIM 360, SAP, Procore, ACC & similar.
  • Excellent Admin Skill in relation to, Microsoft office programs, report writing, risk assessment, business conduct and etiquette.
  • System development, review & administration related skills at a very proficient level.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and administrative capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret and develop QMS documents (e.g., SOPs, ITPs).

Responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY:

The QEHS BU Lead is responsible for driving excellence in Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety standards across the Business Unit. This role ensures that all projects meet the highest levels of compliance, reliability, and performance by leading the implementation and continuous improvement of the Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety Management System. Working closely with project teams, clients, and internal stakeholders, the QEHS BU Lead fosters a culture of QEHS throughout the project lifecycle—from design and procurement to execution and handover. The role includes setting clear audit targets, conducting monthly verification audits, risk assessments, corrective actions, training programs, environmental compliance monitoring & implementation, quality cycle implementation & monitoring while also supporting strategic initiatives, regulatory compliance, and client engagement across all operational geographies.
Critically, The QEHS BU lead must be adept at leading dynamic, mobile teams, ensuring consistent adherence to quality, environmental, health, and safety standards across diverse and fast-paced project environments, a hand on approach is key with travelling to projects to ensure a consistent physical presence is maintained.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:

  • Lead Quality, Environmenta, Health & Safety Management – Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of ISO 9001:2015, ISO14001:2015 and ISO45001:2018, Mercury QMS, and EHS strategies, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, manage risks and identify opportunities, manage environmental compliance and organizational objectives. Drive process efficiency, staff training, and compliance while fostering a proactive quality and safety culture.
  • Hands-On Project Support – Provide direct, on-the-ground assistance across all projects, guiding teams, stakeholders, clients, and supply chain partners to ensure operational excellence. Offer proactive solutions to challenges, ensuring successful project setup and seamless quality management from inception to completion.
  • Client Liaison – Act as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing queries professionally, promoting best practices, resolving incidents and non-conformances (NCRs), and ensuring adherence to client standards.
  • Compliance monitoring: Ensure compliance obligations are evaluated per project & per region & monitor adherence to local, Mercury & client obligations.
  • Environmental Compliance: Ensure waste streams are defined, manage & captured within the smart waste or equivalent platforms, identify & manage any deviations to the set standards for waste obligations, ensure environmental management plans have been implemented & adhered to, and ensure impacts & aspects are identified, implemented & monitored as required.
  • Sustainability: Support all projects by driving initiatives related to LEED, BREEAM, sustainability, and similar frameworks, while conducting regular compliance audits and monitoring progress to ensure alignment with intended environmental and regulatory standards.
  • Training & Onboarding – Ensure training programs are monitored & deviations to objectives are managed and any opportunities in relation to competencies are identified & presented to the QEHS Director & relevant Managing Director for review.
  • Audit & Risk Management – Establish and review audit schedule, ensuring quality and EHS compliance through formal audits conducted monthly. Perform regular reviews, spot-checks, and deep dives into critical risks, analysing data to drive strategic risk reduction measures.
  • Nonconformities & Corrective Actions - Manage nonconformities by identifying root causes, implementing CAPA, ensuring ISO and regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement to reduce quality, environmental, health, and safety risks.
  • Supply Chain & Procurement – Collaborate with the PQQ/Procurement teams to vet and review potential supply chain partners within reasonable timeframes, ensuring compliance with defined quality and safety standards. Conduct supplier audits, manage non-conformances, and support corrective actions for continuous improvement.
  • Project Tender Support – Provide expert quality and EHS input during project tendering, reviewing client specifications, identifying risks, proposing compliance strategies, and ensuring that all commitments align with both internal policies and customer expectations.
  • Continuous Improvement & Process Innovation – Identify trends, lessons learned, and improvement opportunities to eliminate recurring issues and mitigate risks. Develop action plans to optimize process and design safety while driving proactive quality and EHS innovation. Drive consistency, support simplicity & effectiveness, record learnings, implement improvements, bring to light any initiatives that can further improve & keep the company in the lead in terms of best-in-class practices.
  • Document & Record Management – Oversee the creation, review, approval, distribution, and archiving of project documentation such: RAMS, ITPs, Plans and Procedures, Forms and Templates, etc… to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance, and version control.
  • Comon Data Environment (CDE) - Responsible for managing and delivering training on BIM 360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), conducting regular audits to ensuring effective use, data integrity, and team collaboration.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting – Lead regular quality and safety meetings with clients, management, and operational teams to ensure alignment, address concerns, and facilitate cross-functional collaboration. Prepare and present monthly EHS reports, highlighting key insights and improvement initiatives.
  • Legislative & Compliance Review – Monitor and review frequent legislative changes, ensuring that the business and projects remain aligned with updated regulatory requirements. Validate compliance across Mercury, EU, and client obligations while addressing regional statutory differences.
  • Wellbeing & Safety Culture – Promote workplace wellbeing and occupational health through the Bio-Psychosocial model. Lead initiatives such as Lunch & Learns to disseminate best practices and knowledge on quality and safety management. Drive consequence management to enhance accountability and performance.
