Description:
The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.
Position title: Busser
Department: Food & Beverage
Reports to: Outlet Manager
Supervises: None
Hours per week: Temporary, part-time until December 31, 2024 (Shift availability between 11:00am - 5:00pm from Monday to Friday)
Compensation: $17.50 per hour
Position Purpose
The Busser is responsible for the clean and tidy appearance of all associated food and beverage areas in the restaurant and maintains a professional impression to our guests. The ideal candidate has an outgoing, friendly personality and enjoys dealing with people while being hands on.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing excellent guest service to AMS standards applying AMS procedures
- Clear tables and bar area as needed, properly disposes of recycling and food waste, and alerts custodial to ensure floors are clean and dry at all times
- Assist guests in public areas by answering questions and providing directions, resulting in excellent guest relations
- Demonstrating excellent in depth knowledge about products, AMS services and businesses, the venue and other services within the Student Union Building and on campus
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment
- Following the AMS food safety procedures at all times
- Demonstrating excellent grooming and uniform standards according to AMS procedures
- Working with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful department
- Other duties as required
Qualifications and Experience
- Preference given to currently registered UBC students
- Previous experience in a food service environment an asset
- Food Safe certification is an asset
- Serving-It-Right certificate is an asset
- Language: required to speak, read and write English
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to learn quickly
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment remaining calm under pressure
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 12kgs (26.5lbs)
