QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • Completion of Post-Secondary Education required
  • Prior Butchery/Meat Cutting work experience required (preferably 3+ years)
  • Superior knowledge of meat varieties, cuts, unique qualities, associated preparation/cooking methods, custom orders, etc.
  • Experience with Food Safety legislation and compliance
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience using cutting knives, bandsaws, meat grinders, sausage stuffing equipment, etc.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organization, planning and time management skills
  • Strong people management and communication abilities
  • Strong work ethic while maintaining honesty, integrity and trust within his/her role
  • Ability to work with a dynamic and diverse team

Responsibilities

PURPOSE

This position would include customer service and assisting the butcher in prepping and cutting meats, merchandising meats, receiving orders and putting them away, packaging, cleaning, and general maintenance. Being able to assist customers with meal ideas and cooking suggestions is an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintaining/Rotating shop meat case
  • Ensure orderly, beautiful, and clean presentation of all meat/food products and non-food merchandise within the butchery department
  • Cutting and preparing all varieties and cuts of meat in an efficient manner
  • Ensure butchery displays and signage are up to date and attractive to customers
  • Cut, trim, bone, tie, and grind meats, such as beef, pork, poultry, etc.
  • Shape, lace, and tie roasts, using boning knife, skewer, and twine
  • Prepare special cuts of meat ordered by customers
  • Sell butchery products by providing customers with exceptional service and information needed to make product-related decisions
  • Ensure the customer experience is of the highest quality possible
  • Participate in various staff training activities, including any new/existing members of the butchery department team
  • Participate in company events, catering activities, classes for customers, etc.
  • Helping to verify and unload meat/product deliveries
  • Maintain the highest standards related to sanitation, freshness, trim and cutting quality, etc.
  • Support and adhere to company food safety standards and other regulatory or internal requirements, such as equipment training, safety training and monitoring
  • Ensure all department work areas and equipment are cleaned on an established schedule, tracked daily/weekly/monthly, and opportunities for improvement are identified
  • Participate in monthly promotions, holiday features, product sales, etc.
  • Participate in meetings as required
  • Follow all established Heatherlea Farm Shoppe policies and procedures.
  • Support the strategic plan, mission, vision and values of Heatherlea Farm Shoppe.
  • Promote and participate in a work environment free of workplace harassment and violence.
  • Perform work in a safe manner, so as not to endanger oneself or others.
