Job Purpose/Summary:
The Buyer is responsible for the procurement process for materials, components, and services required for manufacturing operations. This role involves helping the Purchasing Manager implement and continuously improve the procurement strategy, negotiate with suppliers and ensure the timely delivery of goods while optimising costs and maintaining quality standards.

Main Responsibilities/Key Tasks:

  • Supplier Management:
  • Support in identifying and evaluating reliable suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
  • Negotiate favourable terms and conditions with suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance and address any issues or concerns.
  • Procurement Strategy:
  • Working alongside the Purchasing Manager develop and implement procurement strategies to meet organisational goals.
  • Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends and pricing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align procurement with production plans.
  • Cost Optimisation:
  • Analyse cost structures and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining product quality.
  • Track and report cost savings achieved through procurement activities.

Inventory Management:

  • Manage inventory levels to ensure optimal stock levels.
  • Work with the Materials Controller to implement inventory control measures to minimise excess or obsolete inventory.
  • Work closely with Planning and Materials controller to align procurement with forecast and production schedules
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure that all purchased materials and components meet quality standards.
  • Collaborate with Quality teams to resolve quality issues with suppliers.
  • Risk Management:
  • Identify and assess supply chain risks.
  • Develop contingency plans to mitigate supply disruptions.
  • Stay informed about geopolitical and economic factors affecting the supply chain.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Utilise data and analytics to make informed procurement decisions.
  • Support in preparing regular reports (KPI’s) on procurement performance to management.
