MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia. JOB SUMMARY: Seeks competitive procurements, estimates materials, drafts purchase orders and responsible for all rental activities to include drafting rental and service P.O.'s for both in house needs and active jobs. SUPERVISES: N/A ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   1. Seeks competitive pricing of materials and services sourced in accordance with MHI Procurement Procedures and procurement specifications.   2. Creates purchase orders in MHI Procurement system to support material and services. 3. Estimate material and services for bids and potential purchases. 4. Update data in approved vendors list. 5. Arranges rentals for active jobs and in response to in house needs. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Shares responsibility for supervising Procurement Driver for material deliveries and pick-up. 2. Performs other duties as necessary and appropriate to this position as assigned by Procurement Manager. 3. Filing of PO’s and all supporting documentation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Associates Degree or Equivalent work related experience. 2. Minimum three years of ship repair/building experience with minimum one year buyer experience in the ship repair/builder industry preferred. 3. General knowledge of Contractors Purchasing System Review (CPSR) requirements. 4. Working knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) requirements. 5. Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems in a fast-paced environment. 6. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Responsibilities
The Buyer I is responsible for competitive procurement of materials and services, estimating needs for bids, drafting purchase orders, and managing all rental activities for in-house needs and active jobs. This role also involves sharing supervision of the Procurement Driver for deliveries and maintaining organized filing of all procurement documentation.
