Position Summary: The Buyer II is a mid-level procurement professional responsible for executing tactical and strategic purchasing activities in a manufacturing environment with a global supply chain. This role operates with moderate autonomy and requires strong analytical capability, advanced inventory management knowledge, and cross-functional coordination. The Buyer II directly influences material availability, inventory health, supplier performance, and total cost across domestic and international supply bases. Principle Responsibilities: Procurement and Sourcing: Execute purchasing activities for tactical and strategic materials supporting manufacturing operations. Manage purchase orders to meet production schedules, inventory targets, and service-level requirements. Support supplier selection, sourcing initiatives, and supplier performance management. Manage domestic and international suppliers across a global supply chain. Negotiate pricing, lead times, and favorable payment terms to improve total cost and cash flow. Apply Incoterms and shipment modes (air, ocean, ground, expedited) to optimize cost, risk, and service. Maintain strong supplier relationships while enforcing performance expectations and contractual terms. Inventory Management and Planning: Apply advanced inventory management concepts including Safety Stock (SS), Reorder Point (ROP), Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ), and Demand During Lead Time (DDLT). Calculate and maintain planning parameters using appropriate equations and demand/lead-time data. Execute both ROP-based and periodic review inventory strategies. Monitor inventory levels, turns, excess, and obsolescence; recommend corrective actions. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Demonstrate thorough knowledge of how Engineering, Product Management, Accounting, Receiving, and Production interface with Procurement. Coordinate with Engineering on BOM changes, material substitutions, and new product introductions. Partner with Accounting on pricing accuracy, invoice resolution, accruals, and payment terms. Work closely with Receiving and Production to resolve shortages, delivery issues, and quality concerns. Industry Knowledge: Maintains industry knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes; reviewing related publications; establishing networks. 2. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, including special projects and tasks as delegated supervisor. Requirements Education Requirements (R/Required, P/Preferred): (R) Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training/experience in the field or in a related area Degrees Preferred: Supply Chain Management, Business Administration/Management Training, Skills, Knowledge and Experience Specific Training in this field (R/Required, P/Preferred): (R) Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, internet navigation (P) Proficient using ERP systems (P) ASCM certification such as CPIM or CSCP (P) Strategic Management Experience/Knowledge in this field (R/Required, P/Preferred): (R) Minimum of 3 years of experience in procurement, buying, or supply chain within a manufacturing setting. (R) Experience supporting a global supply chain with domestic and international suppliers. (P) Proficiency in Incoterms and global transportation models. General Experiences/Knowledge/Skills: (R) Must be detail oriented and have the ability to multi-task. (P) Must have an analytical thought process, be math proficient and have strong communication skills, both written and verbal. (P) Must have the ability to negotiate on behalf of the company. (P) Must be able to work long hours as needed. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and realize cost savings when appropriate.
