GENERAL SUMMARY

This position is responsible to purchase raw materials, parts and services. Work includes reviewing requests, talking to vendors, examining price, suitability, and availability of items or services, comparing specifications and reviewing alternatives to requests to fulfill business objectives.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Associate degree in Business or related field or equivalent work experience.
  2. 2 years purchasing experience in manufacturing facility preferred. Overall experience in manufacturing facility may be considered in lieu of direct purchasing experience.
  3. Superior communication (oral and written), interpersonal skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  4. Ability to multi-task and work independently.
  5. Ability to lift 50 lbs. on occasion.
  6. Computer proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and inventory management system.

Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for performing job duties in a safe and conscientious manner, following all procedures, programs, and policies established for specific department and calling attention to any unsafe acts observed in the work of others.
  2. Establishes and maintains a productive working relationship with the Steward team.
  3. Represent the company to all vendors and suppliers including reflecting Steward values.
  4. Communicate necessary quality standards, Steward specifications and expectations to vendors and suppliers.
  5. Work with Planning and Production team to obtain raw materials to meet the Production Schedule, which includes but isn’t limited to:
    a. Solicit quotes, estimates and proposals for requested items.
    b. Generate, verify, and obtain proper approval for purchase requisitions.
    c. Placing orders.
    d. Entering information into inventory management system.
    e. Distribute copies of purchase requisitions and purchase orders to proper files.
    f. Distribute weekly raw material delivery reports to necessary team members.
    g. Follow-up with suppliers for delivery status and updates.
  6. Work with Quality department to resolve quality issues on raw materials. Work with vendors to obtain root cause and corrective action responses to quality issues.
  7. Help monitor and order stock room supplies such as gloves, respirator supplies, deli cups, lids, and copy paper.
  8. Help monitor weekly and monthly inventory supplies provided by shipping/receiving so that appropriate inventory levels are maintained.
  9. Maintain and verifying insurance certificates for vendors that perform contracted work at Steward facility.
  10. Responsible for assessment of vendors by monitoring the quality, service and price. Work with Quality, Production and Engineering to determine when vendor quality audits are needed.
  11. Responsible for maintaining the inventory management system including the accuracy of materials master data, open, closed and received orders.
  12. Establish and maintain effective systems for purchasing including all elements needed for an ISO compliant QMS.
  13. Identify and track cost savings opportunities.
  14. Audit UPS, FedEx and freight bills. Resolve all discrepancies.
  15. Arrange pick-ups by selecting the best freight company for all in/out bound shipments.
  16. Process all returns to ensure proper credits are issued and received.
  17. Other duties as assigned.
