At Imperial Cash & Carry, the most critical attribute we’re looking for in our next BWS Buyer is the ability to negotiate outstanding deals. You must have a proven track record of securing the best terms and value from suppliers, driving margin and competitive advantage for your business.
This role is much more than purchasing – it’s about using your influence, insight, and commercial instinct to drive value in every conversation and contract.
You’ll take full ownership of a selection of suppliers our Beers, Wines & Spirits and confectionary categories – managing key supplier accounts, planning promotions, and ensuring our shelves are always stocked with the right products at the right price.
This is an office-based role (no remote working), based at our cash and carry facility, 5 days per week.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Exceptional negotiation skills – a proven dealmaker with the ability to secure market-leading terms.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the Beers, Wines & Spirits (BWS) sector.
  • Minimum 2 years in a buying role, ideally within the independent retail or wholesale space.
  • Strong knowledge of the independent retail market and BWS product landscape.
  • Commercially sharp, financially literate, and results-oriented.
  • High attention to detail, with strong organisational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communicator, both internally with team members and externally with suppliers and customers.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and able to learn in-house software systems
Responsibilities
  • Take full responsibility for negotiating the best possible terms with BWS and confectionary suppliers – this is your top priority.
  • Act as a key account manager for a portfolio of BWS and confectionary suppliers, building and maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Lead on weekly, weekend, and trade day promotions, securing supplier funding and support.
  • Manage all financial elements of supplier accounts including retros, promotional funding, invoicing, and margin tracking.
  • Maintain optimal stock levels and ensure product availability is never compromised.
  • Develop strong rapport with key BWS brands and maintain long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships.
  • Run and manage Imperial’s Retail Club, delivering tailored deals and offers for participating retailers.
  • Work collaboratively with the shop floor and warehouse teams to ensure smooth operations and effective product visibility.
  • Keep informed on industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging product opportunities.
  • Manage PR opportunities and events – including anniversary celebrations, brand campaigns, and drafting or coordinating press releases in collaboration with the team.
  • Carry out any other duties as advised by the line manager, directors, or board to support the wider goals of the business.
