BUYER/PLANNER – JOB TITLE

Job Summary: We are hiring a Buyer/Planner to work with one of our clients in Brantford who designs and manufactures telecom products for military and commercial use! We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Buyer/Planner. This role involves sourcing, purchasing, and coordinating materials and services needed for production. Ideal candidate has experience with defense procurement rules, vendor negotiations, and managing supply chains in regulated industries.
Job Type: Full-time, permanent. 100% on-site.
Job Location: Brantford, ON
Compensation: $65,000 per annum to start + benefits

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College diploma or university degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in purchasing, preferably in telecommunications, aerospace, defense, or manufacturing sectors.
  • Working knowledge of defense procurement regulations and standards.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (eg. SAP, Epicor, Nav, SDC)
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Drive progress independently and thrives in autonomy and fast-paced settings.
  • SCMP designation or working to designation (preferred).
  • Eligibility for Controlled Goods clearance and security clearances as required.
  • Flexibility to travel when required; some travel may be required to meet with suppliers or attend industry events

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing the procurement and planning of material to ensure production and operational needs are met
  • Interpret and apply procurement policies related to government and defense contracts (e.g., ITAR, DFARS, Controlled Goods Program, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, inventory levels, and supplier performance using ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Epicor).
  • Analyze market trends and risks to identify potential sourcing opportunities or disruptions.
  • Ensure compliance with export controls and government procurement standards.
  • Develop and issue RFQs, evaluate vendor bids, and perform cost analysis.
  • Monitor and optimize procurement lead times, inventory levels, and supplier delivery performance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to optimize supply chain efficiency
  • Assist with other supply chain functions during peak demand periods
