Description

This role is responsible for sourcing and managing global suppliers of commodities and specialty intermediate ingredients used in personal care, food, and household products. Key responsibilities include selecting vendors, negotiating prices, issuing purchase orders, handling claims, and fostering strong vendor relationships. The position also oversees all customs clearance activities for import shipments arriving by air, sea, and truck, ensuring accurate documentation, resolving import issues, and coordinating delivery logistics from ports to company facilities.

Location: Placentia, CA
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
Pay Range: $75k - $85k

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, purchasing, logistics management, or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in purchasing and/or supply chain management.
  • Experience in the chemical or specialty ingredients sector is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain logistics and customs import procedures.
  • Customer-oriented mindset with a solid understanding of sales and its role in business growth.
  • Advanced computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication and relationship building across multiple departments and with external partners.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving abilities and sound decision-making.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and evaluate new suppliers based on criteria such as cost, quality, support, capacity, and reliability.
  • Build and sustain strategic partnerships with key approved vendors.
  • Create, negotiate, and manage purchase orders aligned with company needs.
  • Monitor vendor performance regarding cost, quality, and delivery, while ensuring compliance with contracts, internal quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the purchase order workflow to guarantee timely order placement, proper authorization, and adherence to company policies.
  • Collaborate across departments to actively manage inventory based on product demand and supply.
  • Oversee the complete import process, including coordinating shipments from overseas origins to the Southwest Coast, preparing necessary import documentation, facilitating customs clearance, and managing delivery carriers.
  • Communicate proactively the Estimated Time of Departure (ETD) and Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) for all purchase orders to relevant stakeholders.
