Key Responsibilities

  • Source and evaluate products and suppliers in the UK and international markets.
  • Request, analyse and compare supplier quotations, pricing structures and commercial terms.
  • Negotiate purchase prices, payment terms, minimum order quantities, lead times and delivery arrangements.
  • Raise and manage purchase orders from initial placement through to delivery.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and other suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance, including pricing, product quality, lead times and fulfilment reliability.
  • Analyse historical sales, stock levels and purchasing data to support procurement decisions.
  • Work with the e-commerce and inventory teams to forecast product requirements and maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Identify potential stock shortages, excess inventory and supply-chain risks and take appropriate action.
  • Research new products, suppliers and sourcing opportunities in line with customer demand and commercial objectives.
  • Support product range and pricing decisions through competitor, supplier and market analysis.
  • Maintain accurate supplier, product, pricing and purchasing records within company systems.
  • Review procurement costs and identify opportunities to improve margins and purchasing efficiency.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and logistics partners regarding shipments, delivery schedules and discrepancies.
  • Resolve purchasing issues including delayed deliveries, incorrect quantities, damaged goods and supplier disputes.
  • Ensure purchasing activities follow internal approval processes and company procurement procedures.
  • Produce regular reports on purchasing activity, supplier performance, stock requirements and cost savings.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous professional experience in buying, purchasing, procurement or a closely related commercial role.
  • Experience working with suppliers and negotiating prices and commercial terms.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret purchasing, sales and inventory data.
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of cost, margin and profitability.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple suppliers and purchase orders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other business software.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous buying or procurement experience within e-commerce, online retail, wholesale or distribution.
  • Experience sourcing products internationally.
  • Experience with inventory management, ERP, marketplace or e-commerce systems.
  • Understanding of demand forecasting, stock planning and supplier performance management.
  • Experience purchasing products for marketplaces or direct-to-consumer online retail operations.
