JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: BYU Athletics Built4Life Academic Advisor

JOB SUMMARY:

The BYU Athletics Built4Life Academic Advisor supports NCAA student-athletes in their academic journey by providing advising, graduation planning, and eligibility guidance. It involves collaborating with advisors, compliance staff, and coaches, as well as connecting students with campus resources to support their overall success. The position also helps monitor academic progress, develop support plans when needed, and contribute to a positive and collaborative environment that promotes both academic and personal growth for BYU student-athletes.

Responsibilities
  • Work one-on-one with NCAA student-athletes, advising and creating class schedules, major selection, and graduation planning
  • Create and monitor semester/term class schedules for assigned teams
  • Collaborate with campus advisement centers to monitor graduation plans
  • Work with NCAA compliance and certification teams to monitor and evaluate eligibility
  • Evaluate transfer student-athletes’ transcripts and determine possible majors and classes that will ensure eligibility
  • Communicate with student-athletes regarding holds, applying for graduation, updating personal information, and IXP tasks
  • Collaborate with B4LSAC learning specialists, tutor coordinator, other advisors, and academic support staff to create intervention plans for Tier III student-athletes needing additional academic help and support
  • Refer student-athletes to other B4LSAC resources as needed, i.e. mental/emotional wellness counselors, internship possibilities, career planning services, and financial aid counselor
  • Work on various projects as assigned by supervisor, unit leader, and/or athletic director
  • Stay informed on current issues regarding NCAA student-athletes
  • Build and maintain communication and positive relationships with coaches
  • Review, evaluate, and contribute to weekly academic reports
  • Plan, carry out, and oversee academic support for Tier I and II student-athletes on assigned teams
