The Boeing Global Services (BGS) C-17 Avionics & Flight Controls (AVFC) team is seeking a mid-career C-17 Associate Support Equipment Engineer to perform Design, Integration and Test activities in support of current and future development programs.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma facility.
This position reports to the Avionics Capability Delivery Manager for the AVFC organization. A key attribute of this position is the ability to accomplish assigned engineering tasks under minimal instruction, and articulate both progress and help needed across geographically diverse teams. Areas of execution could include software development, laboratory test, hardware integration and qualification. Cyber security is also a responsibility of this position.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The successful candidate will possess a wide range of Software Development experience throughout the development lifecycle. Software and hardware integration will be a staple of this position, using multiple Avionics busses such as Mil-Standard-1553 and ARINC-429. Commercial buses such as Ethernet, RS- 232 and USB are heavily used as well. Working with internal and external customers to ensure all requirements are met, possessing a disciplined engineering method, and exhibiting strong communication skills are all requirements for the position. The ability to rapidly develop an understanding of the products is essential, leading to rapid transition into the ability to contribute. The selected candidate will understand project schedules, will be able to share status of assignments.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering
  • Experience in Project Engineering / Project Integration
  • 7+ years’ experience with avionics development/integration
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to work seamlessly with team members at different geographical locations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Automated Test Equipment Knowledge: Possess a good understanding of automated test equipment and be able to write unit test cases to support problem reports and test program sets.
  • Strong proficiency in .NET (C# / WPF / WinForms): Able to build responsive, efficient and maintainable desktop applications using modern .NET frameworks.
  • Experience in Test Program development and integration.
  • Avionics software development experience
  • Familiarity with USAF Technical Orders
  • Familiarity with USAF Support Equipment

TYPICAL EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

  • Experience with aircraft communications buses and protocols – knowledge of how to interface with aircraft boxes, interpret binary data and handle custom communication protocols over avionics buses such as ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553.
  • Data parsing and visualization skills – Able to parse raw aircraft box data and display it in a meaningful way for engineering or diagnostic purposes.
  • Familiarity with hardware-software integration and troubleshooting – Ability to diagnose data flow, timing issues and interface mismatches using tools like protocol analyzers, logs and signal testers.
  • Cross functional engineering, integration, and issue resolution
  • Customer interfacing with project development milestones (MS PowerPoint)
  • PM collaboration with project schedule and assessing impacts, risks and opportunities.
  • Communicating across various teams and functions, fostering collaboration and building consensus.
  • Aiding field sites in the resolution of software, hardware, and documentation issues related to fielded products.
  • Redesign of Graphical User Interfaces for maintenance / obsolescence
