Boeing is seeking a C-17 Mid-Level Electrical System Design Engineer (EMI/EMC) to join our team in Long Beach, California. The primary role for this position is to ensure Electromagnetic Compatibility of C-17 aircraft systems.
In the Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) role, you will define EMI and lightning test requirements, assess supplier designs, develop test procedures, witness testing, assess test results and approve supplier test reports for a variety of aircraft equipment projects.
In addition, you will participate in both supplier and USAF design reviews and prepare, present and obtain airworthiness approval which includes preparing analyses for similarity and requirement gaps and performing industry spec comparisons.
In the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) role, you will define EMC test requirements, develop Aircraft level EMC test plans / procedures, perform on-aircraft EMC testing at various USAF bases, assess test results, generate test reports and coordinate USAF approval.
The role will lead coordination between all stakeholders to ensure successful EMC test execution including Boeing subject matter experts, USAF program office, test wing, base ops, crews, maintainers and various suppliers whose equipment is being tested on the USAF C-17. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science)
  • 3+ years’ experience in electrical/electronic design with consideration to Electromagnetic Interference/Compatibility (EMI/EMC)
  • 3+ years’ experience with MIL-STD-461/464 and/or DO-160 EMI/EMC
  • Experience creating and documenting test plans/procedures, executing tests, analyzing results, and/or creating test reports
  • Able and willing to travel up to 25% of the time domestically

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Experience with on aircraft safety, test and operations
  • Experience with Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) with respect to electrical/electronic design (e.g., wire harness design, grounding and shielding design techniques, lightning protection)
  • Experience general working level knowledge of tactical aircraft avionics systems, subsystems, and components, to include flight controls, radar, communications and weapons, power distribution, aircraft communication systems, radios, antennas, RF, Cosite Analysis etc. This includes the requirements, operating principles, design variables, performance, and key interfaces
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% to USAF bases (in USA)
