Description

The Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission is accepting applications for a Delaware Licensed Equine Veterinary Technician. This employee would be under the direct supervision of the Commission Veterinarians.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Possession of a current Delaware Veterinary Technician license issued by the Delaware Veterinary Board.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working with equines, including handling, restraint, and sample collection.
  • Knowledge of safe handling procedures for horses and standard veterinary practices for equine care.
  • Knowledge of handling administrative tasks including recordkeeping, inventory management, and data entry.
  • Communication skills, demonstrating professionalism, ethical conduct, and integrity.

Responsibilities

The listed essential functions are fundamental duties of the position and are critical to successful performance. All duties are performed under the direct supervision of Commission Veterinarians.

Collect blood samples for post-race testing, pre-race blood gas testing, and out-of-competition testing in accordance with established veterinary and regulatory standards.

  • Package and label biological samples, ensuring compliance with chain-of-custody protocols and proper documentation.
  • Accurately maintain Commission veterinary files, including medical, testing, and regulatory records.
  • Perform data entry of horse history, test results, and other relevant information into Commission databases.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of veterinary and sampling supplies, ensuring adequate stock for race and event days.
  • Assist Commission Veterinarians in daily duties as assigned, including preparing equipment and supplies for testing procedures.
  • Adhere to all Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission rules, veterinary regulations, and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Provide professional, courteous interaction with horse owners, trainers, racing officials, and other Commission staff.
